Guest evil_scoff Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Hi there I'm having trouble connecting to the Internet with the SPV handset. I received the phone about a day ago and have sent messages, received calls and all seemed fine, however when I tried accessing the Internet, via the orange home icon on the top left hand corner of the screen, I hit problems. When I click the icon it says dialling and then after a couple of seconds this is replaced by the words 'Internet Explorer' in the status bar and the softkey options are : 'favourites' and 'menu', however there is only a blank screen inbetween. If I select refresh from the menu option I get a warning telling me the URL is incorrectly formed. I get the same problem with any of my favourites. I registered with orange and asked them if GPRS was enabled which they said it was, and the 'G' icon appears on my status bar, indicating that it is. Is my handset faulty or is it another problem? Thanx
Guest Bazz Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Just cause you've got the little G doesn't mean that GPRS is enabled. I wouldn't trust Orange helpline completely. Choose Menu->Go To and type in a well known address (e.g. www.google.com) and see if that works. Menu->Properties should show the current address so you can check if it is malformed.
Guest Bazz Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 I've had another thought. As it's all your favourites it may be that it doesn't like the http:// so it may be set up just for WAP rather than full internet. Check your GPRS settings - see question 4 of this: http://www.brunel.ac.uk/~em01ddh/Smartphone%20FAQ.htm
Guest dc Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 evil scoff I bought my SPV at the weekend and am having exactly the same problem. So I am glad to hear that I am not the only one. If you get the problem solved would you mind mailing me at [email protected] to let me know how to resolve it. If I get it sorted first I will let you know. Thanks Dan
Guest evil_scoff Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Thanks for the help, I've had no luck so far, it seems that its just not connecting, when I go to the properties of the page I'm supposed to be on, the address and title are both blank. I also seem to have problems keeping connections to the orange network it seems to be fine it just dissappears (usually after I try to connect to the internet) I'll give orange a ring tonight. If anyone else has had similar problems I'd be grateful to hear from them. Thanx
