Having real problems trying to ROOT my friends desire :(

Its on O2 Running Froyo and have been trying to use the latest Unrevoked on Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

On Windows Unrevoked restarts the phone a few times and comes up with the message:

Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?

and on Linux in the Terminal I get the following:

ERROR: n = -1, errno = 19 (No such device)

Anyone have any ideas what is going wrong? Im guessing "User Error" lol

Details of the Phone:

O2 HTC Desire (GSM)

Froyo 2.2

HBOOT - 0.93.0001

Radio - 5.09.05.30_2

Any ideas would be great, I have just spent the last 4 hours trying different things with no luck :(

You've installed the hboot driver yes? just install it when its on the main vol- page. And also try an earlier version of unrevoked..i used 'unrEVOked-3-2-Windoze' in the end as the latest ones didnt work. Paul

Yes used the Hboot drivers from the Unrevoked site, was looking for an earlier version like 3.22 but couldn't find a download link, anyone know of a download link for older versions?

Just a quick update, 3.2 worked perfect so thank you :(

Forgot to check before I gave the phone back but should this process turn off the S-LOCK thing too?

Nope..that's a little bit more risky so I wouldn't bother, he's got clockwork now :(

Yeah I think I saw something about "Unrevoked Forever" to do that is that correct?

Can he install different ROMs in the phones current state or does the S-LOCK need to be off for that?

Thanks for all this info, my ZTE Blade is soooo easy to modify :(

Ha, didnt see you had a blade too! I've just upgraded to the desire and like you say..its a fair bit different to the zte! Yes he can do what he wants bar change the partition sizes (like the JapJelly tpt :( )..give or take :( Paul

Edit : I dont think unrevoked forever works on the gsm desire yet..

Ah right that's good, we won't be messing with partition sizes after all the trouble we had rooting.

Think he will be going with CM7 once it gets to a stable version :(

It's not more risky. If anything it's even less risky because you run the program from a live linux distro which eliminates most problems and errors.

But it is pointless unless you want to:

- Resize partitions

- Remove system files without booting into recovery

Hello there!

I want to root my HTC Desire, actually I already did it but unsuccessful. I rooted it with UnRevoked, but I couldn't flash a custom ROM because clockworkmod doesn't work with PVT4. So I wanted to change recovery to Amon ra but again without success. Then I decided to unroot and there were again some problems with HTC Sync. At the end, I finally made it and unrooted my phone with the same official ROM as it was before. Today I found out my desire "has" erasesize 40000.

So my question is how to root my desire and finally flash a custom ROM?(i ran out of ideas )

Also I read not all ROMS are working with erasize 40000? Is This true ?(cyanogenmod 7)

Please somebody help me!

Thanks!
