hi there

i am interested in buying my very first tablet the Advent Vega. i heard it doesn't have the full Android Market on it so i am just curious as to how one can managed to install the full Google Android Market on the device? may i know how?

do i need to install an ".apk" file and does that affect the device at all?

or what alternative apps market can you recommend or would you do?

also, i would like to ask how can you edit/manage/customise/disable the apps on the main screen? (i.e. settings, mail, facebook, twitter, browser et al) is there such a way?

i would consider myself as between a novice and an intermediate user when it comes to "modifying" or changing something in computers.

thanks.

Gino

Hi mate to answer the first question just look on this forum for Paul's work and install the custom rom on your Vega. Then install a descent launcher I use adw ex from the market. You can change nearly everything.

i have emailed Paul and am awaiting his reply. is it easy to install a ROM or an apk file? will it affect my device? will i have full Google Android MArket after installing the ROM? then would that be the time i need to download the launcher in order to install the ROM?

I doubt that Paul will reply as everything you need is in here. You do not use a launcher to install a ROM, the launcher is just the home screen on Android.

Please see the mcr8 sticky thread at the top of the forum and follow that through.

Will it affect you device? No sarcasm intended but of course it will, that's the point! :(

sorry but i can't find your thread. i am buying the Vega this weekend. and all i want to know is:

1. a way to install an apk file to have full access to the Android Market.

(and a way to individually install an app via some website or a way to install the AppsLib)

2. a way to disable the icons on the bottom of the main home screen

3. way and tips to improve the battery life and lunching of apps (like Launcher Pro)

4. a way to send an email to Advent as i have some firmware/software sugestions.

Thanks.

if you use adw launcher or launcher pro etc that gets rid of the icons on the bottom of the screen

Would you recommend installing the ROM with or without the Clockwork Mod recovery?

and what is this kitchen thing? i don't quite understand.

and is this "R8" the latest ROM for the Vega? and does that include full Android Market and the option to make those icons on the Home screen disappear?

*i'm sorry for all the questions as i'm still a novice when modifying things on the computer.

Thanks.

The clockwork recovery is not needed to install the Rom and if your unsure I'd do it through windows

The R8 is an unofficial update and yes it does include the full market

Don't worry about the kitchen thing as that's for paid subscribers anyway just download the prebake.

This link has some excellent advice and help

If you download from here

Number1 is the download you want just follow the instructions this is the easiest way to do this proccess

Think of the Rom as the operating system like windows

Apks are the programs that you get from the marketplace.

I think you need to read a lot more of the posts here to get a better idea of what to do before attempting this. If you read through a few posts you should get the idea, most questions have been answered on here somewhere and the end result is worth the effort. Just use the search function at the top of the board.

Ok cheers! i do try and read stuff and some of them are just too technical that is why i ask. but hopefully, once i get my Vega and the ROM installed i shall maximise the use of that Tegra2 so i can enjoy the device fully.

Thanks.
