Guest J333UK Posted March 7, 2011 Report Posted March 7, 2011 Been successfully using Sipdroid with my Voipcheap.co.uk account on wi-fi. (Sipdriod seems the most stable of the SIP apps) Going to start using it on GiffGaff next. Does anyone have any experience of this combination? And more importantly, do GiffGaff accept VOIP? If so, £10 a month tariff gives REAL unlimited data = real unlimited calls via VOIP! Ta
Guest Lew247 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 the only thing your not "allowed" to do on giffgaff is tethering I've played around with sipdroid and even the vonage voip app but gave up on that because it can't link up with your vonage account Unfortunately I can only get gsm where I live so no 3G I have the google voice dialler app I'm just waiting for someone in America to sign me up with a google voice number so I can use that on my phone I really wish they'd bring it out for the UK instead of just the US at the moment.
Guest dwl99 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 I think MobileVOIP beta was brought out specifically for Voipcheap. I've had a brief go at using it & it seems to work OK.

Developed for Voipcheap and all the other "betamax" voip companies. I used it on a Nokia e71 and it was useless. I'll try the droid version, thanks.

Been meaning to find out what the google voice thing is all about. Why do you need a number to use it? (a US number I guess?).
Guest Lew247 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 The number is Google's number it allows you to call the us and canada I believe free but the reason I want it is if it works I can then forward my Vonage calls to my mobile US(Google) number As calls to the US are free on my Vonage account it costs me nothing to forward them

Guest Lew247 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 Tried that already, you have to have an american mobile to get it working they send you a verification code by text I got as far as that before and couldn't go any further.
Guest redbaron51 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) I'm on gg and using mobileVoip (justvoip(betamax) account). It works okayish...other end gets echo, but still usable. Will do a proper test next week on the slopes from France ;o) Edited March 8, 2011 by redbaron51

Guest J333UK Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 Can anyone give me a note of the voipcheap.com settings? I've tried connectionserver.voipcheap.co.uk but couldn't get registered. You mean voipcheap.co.uk? If so, i used these settings from here http://www.voipcheap.co.uk/en/sipp.html Software configuration General SIP port : 5060 Registrar : sip.voipcheap.co.uk Proxy server : sip.voipcheap.co.uk Outbound proxy server : leave empty Account name : your VoipCheap username Password : your VoipCheap password Display name/number : your VoipCheap username or voipnumber Stunserver (option) : stun.voipcheap.co.uk Then for stun server port I used 3478, and SIP protocol UDP. I DO NOT KNOW IF THESE ARE THE BEST SETTINGS! But they work for me in Sipdroid, hope they work for you too. If anyone wants to suggest changes to my settings, please do. Oh, and I have to connect a headset to completely remove echo, as SIPdroid uses the speakerphone function for some reason. :(

Guest jt_mcg Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Tried that already, you have to have an american mobile to get it working they send you a verification code by text I got as far as that before and couldn't go any further. Do they require sms verification now for GV? I set it up a few months back and had them call my skype in number. If they will still call an American number, you can setup skype in for three months for $15 I think (use a proxy to get the US skype prices, I think it's cheaper) or use some combination of IPkall, PBXes, and a sip/voip client or softphone for free and verify like that. It's been a pita to get everything setup properly but now I have incoming calls from the US to my san fran from clients/friends/family for no cost to them and only data charges for me and also calls to them for only the price of data + free incoming and outgoing calls in browser gmail (full only doesn't work on our mobiles anyway).
