Firstly, I want to set up e-mail. I am with virgin.net but that is not on the list, what do I do?

Secondly, when I copy my contacts from my old phone, (I have 377) I have to do it in two stages because the sim only holds 200. I copy them to my Blade and I only have 276.... what is going on.

virgin.net ??

if you mean virginmedia.com ... then check here for your email account settings http://help.virginmedia.com/system/viewArt...8B-28214405408B you'll need to tap that stuff into the email account setup on your phone. if you mean some other email provider, then get the server settings for them. you'll probably want to use imap4 rather than pop3 for receiving mail, on all your computers as well as your phone, pop3 wasnt meant to be used on multiple devices.

gmail does work a lot better with these phones & is easier to set up. you can set gmail up to collect mail from your old account too.

not sure about the contacts problem, some roms have problems with contacts on the sim card, maybe you could try copying them in smaller batches or enter the missing ones manually. again, use google to store your contacts, google never forgets, you can also enter them on your computer in gmail.

You should be able to set up the email manually. Look up your POP3 and SMTP settings on the virgin site, or check on your PC email client if you have one. Depending on how virgin operate, you may not be able to send email via their SMTP server if you are not on one of their connections, so you would need to use your mobile providers SMTP server. Also be aware that if you collect your mail via POP on your PC, it will be removing everything from the server so mail wont always get to your phone as well. There is usually a setting you can change to tell your PC mail client to leave mail on the server for a few days if thats important.

Contacts may be easier to transfer via bluetooth if your old phone has it. Or maybe via a data cable to your PC. Depends on the phone really.

Ahh the joys of exchange servers, not had any of these problems for years now as it just keeps everything in one place no matter where i access it from. You could switch over to googlemail, which would achieve the same thing, once you get everything sorted out.

IMAP does that too, without all the 'joys' of an exchange server (which you'd struggle to set up even more on a phone).

I am feeling my age (44), my head is swimmimg.

I have an 'out of the box' San Francisco.

My e-mail address is [email protected]. On my Samsung Monte I got it up and running in seconds, to be honest I am a bit lost on this phone

:(

I click on mail and 'add account' Virgin is not on the list, so I click other. It asks me for username, email address and password..... I don't have a user name as far as I am aware, on my other phone I only entered address and password and it was up and running.

Any thoughts?

Your username might be the same as your email address.

Missing contacts:

Go to "Contacts" > Menu > Display options > Your Google account >Tick every box and click done

Possible email settings:

Incoming: pop3.virgin.net

Outgoing: smtp.virgin.net

Full email address as username, no luck try without the @virgin.net

Server require authentication for outgoing mail

The stock "email" app (Not gmail :() Will check if the incoming settings are correct before proceeding to outgoing. The default PORT and POP3 server: pop3.virgin.net Should be correct.

So:

Username: First try full email address first. If it doesn't work try without the @virgin.net

Password: Your password

Pop3 server: pop3.virgin.net

Port: 110

Security type: Try none, then SSL (Accept all) then TLS (Accept all)

Try each of the above with both usernames

If you are able to proceed to the next step you have the correct incoming details :(
