Guest pompeyrodney Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 Just registered after reading some of the articles on the ZTE Blade. I just bought the standard version from Orange and really want to install the Japanese Jellyfish ROM but I am really confused about how it is done. It seems really easy in the video's I have watched but when it comes to attempting it I feel lost. Do I need to download the Clockworkmod and ROM on a PC and then transfer it to the phone and what about the recovery manager as well. If I boot my phone with the volume down I get a screen with FTM in white text? Thanks for any help you can provide me in advance.
Guest Fou-lu Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 This guide should help, I did it without PC at all, using "astro file manager" and sebs recovery manager in 20 mins.. jj9 is old rom, flb-10 is more stable http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-the-zte-blade/
Guest tomthered Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 Try this guide, I found it dead easy hxxp://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/android/how-to-unlock-the-orange-san-francisco-zte-blade-for-free/
Guest gwebb Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 I bought a San Francisco on Saturday, I put up with the Orange ROM for a few hours, but it is rubbish and so I decided not to wait for CM7 to mature, and flash it with a 2.2 now. So I followed the guide at this site. http://www.orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/ Basically you can do it all on the phone, the only thing you might want to do with your computer is download the ROMs. Total time for downloading the ROM, rooting, installing ClockworkMod and getting FLB-Froyo running was about half an hour, tops. I'm sure the other guides are good but I can say that I had no trouble following the one I used. Anyone who has enough skills and interest to know about the Blade, and Android, and have found their way here should have no trouble getting a ROM installed. It is easier than it looks at first glance. Read the instructions carefully and you'll see there are not that many steps, the guides are being very precise to help prevent people making silly mistakes.
Guest simonsays1 Posted March 9, 2011 Report Posted March 9, 2011 You can download everything on your phone, but I would get the files on your PC and then plug the phone in to transfer them to SD card. You need Uroot,Recovery Manager, Clockwork and the Jap Jelly firmware. Use Filer or install Astro from the market to open the files. Open Astro, look in the SD card for Uroot and then install it, then install Recovery manager, run Recovery manager and use it to install Clockwork. Then boot up holding down the Volume down button, this will start Clockwork, then use Clockwork to install the JJ9 firmware. It's very easy as long as you follow the guides and work carefully. JJ9 is a great ROM.

This is a very precise summery of the already clear/short guide from orangesanfrancisco.co.uk That is all to it! I put Recovery Manager, Clockwork (unzipped .img file) and JJ9 zip rom in an SD card (no filer/Astro as the stock rom file manager can be used. Astro/ES is needed only to unzip clockwork zip file). They are the only files you will need. One might think that MD5 step is important. I have used the same SD card to intall a few OSF for my friends with no hiccup. Edited March 10, 2011 by ronc2000
Guest pompeyrodney Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) Hey thanks a lot guys, its much apppreciated for the links and the advice. I will download the files on my pc I think as orange only gave me 100mb free data, over that and they charge £4 a meg!! Will post upon succesful installation. Is there a guide to what is opened up to the user after installing the custom rom, I mean the things that are fixed and the programs that then become available to the user. I could not find the Astro file manager in the Orange apps marketplace incidentally, all I could see was the crap orange stuff? Will take another look tonight. Edited March 10, 2011 by pompeyrodney

Don't forget to perform a Nandroid backup just in case anything goes wrong; you can then recover from almost anything.
Guest Fou-lu Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) make sure to check MD5sum with astro, incase it got corrupted, backup your 2.1 too.. dont flash jj9, it isn't the most stable rom or supported as much as FLB-10.. orange appstore sucks, use android marketplace.. 2.2 makes a massive difference, you wont regret it xD Edited March 10, 2011 by Fou-lu
Guest pompeyrodney Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 The least confusing guide seems to be the one at http://www.orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/, but even there I am having snags. I cannot seem to download some of the files I need from these url's tinyurl.com/esfile and http://tinyurl.com/clockmd5, if I try to visit on the phones browser I get redirected back to http://orangehome.co.uk, if I go there on a PC I just get to a blank page, any ideas why anyone?

Have you read through the pinned topics at http://android.modaco.com/category/453/zte...ade-modaco-com/ ? There are step-by-step guides, video illustrations and all sorts.

The snag I have is that I cannot seem to get a reliable enough connection to use the market and I am having problems getting at files I have copied to the sd card. When I view the card in filer all I can see is the root / and two folders called sdcard and system which don't seem to contain the files I expect? Please see the attached sceenshot of the card when viewed through a card reader. Any ideas why I cannot see the files when the card is in the phone, Cheers

Do you have wifi? If you do, use that for downloading as it may save your Orange charges from racking up. The guide over at orangesanfrancisco.co.uk isn't out of date and I think it's clearer to follow than any of the other guides. Have you signed into your Google or Gmail account before trying to go to the market? You must do this first and accept the t&c's. You should then be able to access the tunyurl links to the required apps.
Guest sej7278 Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 i used this guide (with the modaco-r12 rom) but its incredibly hard to follow - you really have to be careful when reading it: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-the-zte-blade/ the orangesanfrancisco.co.uk guide seemed a bit over-simplified on the other hand lol, and a bit dated as you say.

Hi Thar So far I have managed to get wifi working and have rooted the phone, downloaded the clockwork mod program and the rom I'm going to use. I have also installed Astro file manager and an md5 tool. The snag I have now is that I am unsure how to proceed. I have clockwork 3.0.0.6, Recovery Manager 0.34b and the Rom image FLB-Froyo-blade-r10b.zip and FLB-Froyo-blade-r10b-extras.zip. The clockwork file I have is in a zip file but for some reason I cannot extract it with Astro File manager. If I just download the image again I will see how I get on from there. Thanks in advance for any help Edited March 16, 2011 by pompeyrodney

You need a wifi or data connection and then it will download and install the lastest clockwork mod. After that has been completed there is an option in rom manager to install ROM from sd card. When you select this you can choose the flb-froyo-blade-r10b.zip and then it will boot into recovery and install the rom. I think that is the easiest way to do it? edit: you can also make a backup of your current rom from within rom manager as well. You should do this before you install a new rom. If the installation fails (i.e it won't boot the rom) you can boot into clockwork by pressing the volume down key while turning on the power. From clockwork you can restore your old rom. Hi and thanks for responding. I have now installed ROM manager and this has made it much easier. I have installed FLBFroyo R10 which is sooooo much better than the standard ROM from Orange, I am now into installing loads of Apps and generally playing.
