Guest Soulcalibur76 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 I'm interested in buying the Vega and without modding the device i would like to ask: 1. is it possible to download an app (off the internet) or an apk even without modding the device? 2. what launcher would you recommend me to use aside from the stock one from the device? 3. is there an apk for the full Android Market on the internet? if so may i know what version do i need to install?do i find it using the device's browser? 4. aside from Android Market any alternative app store i can go or download to help me find apps? Thanks so much.....
Guest Lennyuk Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Firstly Why would you want to do this? You will be severely limiting the use of the device without taking the very simple, and safe steps of installing a custom rom? 3) Market is more than just one apk so it will not be as simple as you think to get google market up and running by installing individual apk's 2) Launcher Pro or ADW EX 4) No Legal market alternatives 1) Yes in theory if you can find an apk you can install without a market, just make sure you tick "allow outside sources" or whatever its called in the settings.
Guest Soulcalibur76 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 simple reon why i'm afarid to mod: it might void the warranty or the device might be prone to viruses or i might find it hard to reset the whole thing. i did had replies as to modding the device. but how would i know if what i'm installing is correct or the latest version? and would modding it REALLY make full use of the device i.e. performance wise, etc.?
Guest Lennyuk Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Advent have said that they support the hardware not the software, they don't care what we do software side the warranty will still stand. There is no known way to software "brick" the vega, i.e. you can recover from anything you do that seems to "break" it, but its really hard to go wrong anyway. Modding makes a massive massive difference to the device performance. The vega on stock, if you plan on running it stock is not a device worth having.

Guest Lennyuk Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 but how would i know if what i'm installing is correct or the latest version of ROM? is it really THAT simple in modding it? just read the forum! its easy to tell what the latest is, besides even if you install an older version its still going to be better than stock. Yes it really is that simple, the Vega is the easiest android device I have done anything too, and I have played with lots and lots of android devices...... On this forum you can find guides and youtube videos on what to do, its idiot-proof

Guest Lennyuk Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...online-kitchen/ that is the latest rom there are plenty of other threads around to tell you how to do things if the information is not in the above.
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Yeah, just follow the guides, it tells you how to do everything step by step. I picked up a Vega about a month after buying my first Android phone & was (& still am) very new to the OS. If you do get stuck anywhere I'm sure people around here will help you out. Good luck & let us know how you get on.
Guest warriorscot Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Modding is well supported and you might not have noticed but advent are actively supporting this forum. If you are really worried get a copy of the r6 modaco rom as without the PP it's just installing a whole bunch of useful apks in one handy package. You would miss a lot out though by not going with the r8. Read the pinned topics they contain all the info and are pinned for a reason. You won't void the warranty, you won't damage the device and you can't ever not go back to the stock firmware.
Guest theatomicfart Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 4. aside from Android Market any alternative app store i can go or download to help me find apps? Thanks so much..... Check out http://mobilestore.opera.com/
