Ok I've put my Vega into the nVidia boot mode a lot of times so i know I'm doing it correctly.

My Vega is turned off........... and it only ever gets a backlight......... nothing else! doesnt even show up a usb component device?

Its been locking up the last couple of day i put this down to the rom and factory restored it but now this :(

Any Ideas?

make sure the power supply is in when you try to enter nvflash or it won't work

well just to let you know it is IMPOSSIBLE to enter NVFlash without a power supply being there, its one of the conditions the phone uses in order to know to boot into this mode.

Make sure you are getting the timings right too, it often takes several attempts

take out the power, turn the device off (long press power for 6 seconds), put power back in then hold power for 2 seconds, back for 2, release power and then 2 seconds later release back.

then you must have a faulty device that is reporting it has a PSU attached when it doesn't :(

This may sound very unlikely, but I've had the same thing. Must've tried it a good 20 times and got so wound up I went to the pub and soon forgot about it. Next morning (with a slight hangover) tried it and it worked first time.

I'm not saying that you need to follow all these steps to make it work, just that in my experience it can be temperamental.

First follow the instructions properly, if you say you have entered recovery without the power attached you are either lying, have a broken vega or don't understand the process. Go to the advent site and read the full instructions follow the steps EXACTLY. Keep in mind two seconds and a two count are different things.

I reflash mine almost on bi-daily basis without psu :(

I'm not lying at all!!!

I have follow the instructions exactly........ I've done it for the almost two months I've had the vega.

Normally in NVflash mode the backlight is off???

He is not lying. I have entered NVFlash mode without the power supply attached too, I do however find it easier to do with the PSU plugged in.

Pretty sure if you have read somewhere that the PSU is required (thats assuming you are not lying about it!) that is just as a precaution to stop ppl flashing their device when it does not have enough juice.

Thats just my opinion, I avoid telling people what is right and wrong as from my observations that can lead to foot in mouth, see that too many times here (I wont name names).

It will flash quite happily without PSU if the battery is above a certain level. Not sure what it is on the Vega. I've done it loads..

Any road up, back to the OP.

Been there, done it, got the t-shirt. Most people seem to have cracked it by walking away for a few hours and trying again. I also find beer helps...

Persevere chap, you will get there...

I dont think I have ever had the PSU plugged in when I have flashed ... Maybe a requirement for clockworkmod recovery .. but certainly not the standarrd way of doing it.

with or without PSU :(

Tomolewis, try the following.

Press power for 1 minute. Then try the 2sec back, 2 sec back+power, 2 sec back method.

The power button 1 min helped me once and I read something about it in another post.

Ok I left my Vega on my desk at work last night......... tried it first thing this morning and bang first time nvidia mode without the PSU.

I think there is something wrong with it though because on first boot it locked up at the license agreement page.

As its intermittent not too sure how currys will react to me trying to exchange/refund it?

p.s. if anybody wants proof i took a pic of my vega in nvidia mode without the PSU in :(

Come on people, all you have to do is look at the kernel config, or read the instruction manual, to enter stock recovery aka NVFLASH you do NEED to have the power supply in, if your sure you are doing this without then there is an error with your device/your lucky.

No you don't need a power supply for CWM

I know 100% that I am right here so stop trying to tell me I am wrong.

Good Day :(

yes and it doesn't work for me, ever! but first time every time I put the psu in.

Like I have said 3 or 4 times already, if its working for you withotu a psu then its more from luck/a problem than design.

Please believe me as you may end up giving wrong advice to people who don't have a "broken" device like you in the future otherwise....

I wouldn't advise anybody to do anything, I think it goes without saying that if you flash your device with anything less than 30% battery and no PSU connected then you shouldn't be flashing it :(

Just took my advent back and they had no stock......... even though the website said they did so i got a refund........... don't know what to do now.

Read the instruction manual?!?!?!? I'm male! Not genetically programmed to want to read the instructions on ANYTHING!

Nothing wrong with my Vega Lenny, its worked perfectly since day one. Could you post here the part of the kernel config that stops you doing this without PSU please? I'm genuinely curious.

I can also vouch that i have used nv flash without the main with no problems. i have also done it with the mains.

Lenny's right, the only advice to give noobs is do it with the power on, not because there is some remote possibility of a power failure during flashing, which is easy to recover from, but because some people may not be able to get into recovery without it.

I'm also interested in this kernel config thingy. AFAIK, the kernel has no part to play in recovery (I'm talking APX, not CWM)

Cheers
