Wifi issues on brand new OSF (not the usual issue)

Hi everyone.

Think this is my first post here so really quickly, first things first, i got my blade a few months back and without this place i would have been lost. So thanks everyone for all the info on here :(

Right on to my mate's issue.

He's purchased himself a nice shiny new OSF, and Straight out of the box when you try to set up a new network connection you can't. If you go to:

Settings > Wireless & network settings

The wifi option says unable to start wifi. If you press the wifi option i mentioned it says turning on underneath - but then eventually just goes back to saying unable to start wifi.

Im certainly no genius with these things, but i can't understand it, are we missing something? Its a TFT OSF - the only thing that has changed is he has unlocked it so he can use his Virgin sim in it (stock kernel and ROM etc...)

I've had a search on here (i don't like to pester if the answers already there) but can't find anything outside of the normal wifi sleep dropping issues.

I will leave it with you, if anyone has any tips or suggestions they would be more than appreciated!

Thanks

Marc

Did it work before it was unlocked?

You have to suspect the phone is faulty.

No it didnt, i think it may br broke too. Dont really want to flash it for him if it is, think i will advise him to return it.

Thanks for the reply!

Are the APN settings correct? Has the SIM been activated?

Wifi problem has nothing to do with network apn setting.

You can use wifi without a sim card in the phone.

Take out the battery, put the orange sim back inside, reinsert the battery, boot and "factory reset" the device (Located in settings, either under "privacy" or sd / storage) and if the wifi still doesn't work take it back.

DON'T try to fix it via flashing!

I am having exactly the same issue for an OSF I bought for the missus today. Wifi not working, whatever I do. Probably best to return it indeed, though what harm could flashing another ROM do? Can't you always flash back the original Orange stock ROM?
