Is it worth moving to Giff Gaff from Orange and what is the Giff Gaff 3G signal like etc

Thanks

Giff gaff is basically like o2.it piggy banks on the o2 network and so you will get the same speeds.

Orange dolpin is bad value for money. Giffgaff O2 and tesco are all on the same network but are totally rubbish coverage in my area as is vodafone. You need to consider coverage not just price. The maps are not that accurate either for rural areas where Half a mile and a small hill can make all the difference.

The map shows good coverage at my location for O2, yet with a GigGaf sim in my phone there's no coverage, there's no reliable signal untill I drive or walk about a mile up the road, then it's patch for until I get to the nearest big town, 10 miles away.

As much as I'd like to move form Orange I'm stuck while there's no other reliable mobile signal out here in the sticks.

T-Mobile with signal share (Shares with orange)

T-Mobiles internet deals aren't even half as good as they used to be but still far better than Oranges!

You can buy a 6month internet bundle for £20 one-off payment.. 500mb/pm fair use, no charge if you go over.

Used to be 1gb or 3gb/pm fair use.. Still not that bad

I have been on giffgaff for just under a month. Their goody bags (bundles) seem to be the best value around.

Sadly the sharing is not 3G yet but I'm led to beleive it eventually will be. Orange is the only 3G signal I can get here as the transmitter is only 1/2 mile away!!

The 6 month £20 top-up is back to 1GB now.

This Booster comes with a fair use policy of 1GB a month. We'll monitor how much you send and receive each calendar month so that we can protect our network for all our customers. If you use more than your fair use policy amount, we won't charge you any more, but we may restrict how you can use internet on your phone, depending on how often you go over your amount and by how much.

Three has joined the game now. They introduced the-one-plan on pay as you go. £15/month, minutes, texts and all you can eat data and they allow tethering as well. In my area GG's signal is crap, 3 is brilliant, so bye bye GG, hello 3! :D

why not get a sim card and put £10 on it and try it for a few days if it works great transfer your number

then you have zero issues, if it doesn't work you have a back up sim card for the future

personally orange offers bad value on payasugo

As said above, it really depends on where you are as to what signal you will get on giffgaff, but you can check here:

http://www.o2.co.uk/coveragechecker

Orange Pay and Go deals seem expensive compared to giffgaff so as long as you get a good signal then giffgaff would be/is my choice :D

I use my unlocked usb dongle to check for available netwroks in my location. It tells me if it can see 3G or not by network and a rough indication of signal strength. I'm sure there is probably some software out there that would give more detailed info.

Have to agree Orange isn't a good value for money option..... unless you are already with them and threaten to leave! As with most providers it's amazing what deals they can pull out of the bag when you speak to the retentions department!

I will probably move to T-Mobile for 3g coverage in my area with something like the deal below* when my O2 12mth simplicity deal finishes soon but that cost £180 for the year and I got £150 cashback (should only have been £100) so it doesn't owe me much @£2.50 pmonth (300 mins/txts/500mb)!

I think somewhere in the thread there is also talk of £80 cashback??

The giffgaff comes with £5 pre loaded if you order off one of the sigs above just give it a try first.

Ive found the O2 network to be shocking although speedtests are ok it often takes 3-4 presses of a link for it display anything.

If you just press it once 9 times of of 10 it just hangs and you get a timeout 408 error message.

I have found the O2 and GiffGaff signal to be just as good as each other where I am, Surrey. Both being better than Orange.

The only thing to remember with GiffGaff is when you top up it is not credit you are paying for just use of their service for the month. With O2 you will have your top up amount in credit on your phone at the end of the month.

That is not true

With either company you top up with £10 and you get that amount of calls and or texts etc

If you top up £10 on giffgaff that allows you to have Unlimited calls and text to other giffgaff numbers for 3 months

With giffgaff you also have the OPTION of converting that £10 to a goodybag which will then give you 250 anytime minutes to any uk network or house phone and unlimited texts to any uk network or house phone

you do not "have" to convert the top up to a goodybag

Also giffgaff gets you truly unlimited internet that even allows streaming.

What you do and what you get is up to you, its all a matter of personal preference

I used to be on O2 contract - guess who I'm with now! and I'm saving at least £25 a month compared to what I was paying on contract

Well it is pretty much true.

Top up £10 with O2 you can get 300 UK texts, 500MB data and unlimited Wi-Fi for a month. At the end of the month you will still have £10 credit on your phone.

Top up £10 with GiffGaff you get 250 mins, unlimited web, unlimited texts. AT the end of the month you wont have £10 credit on your phone.

but its your choice to convert the £10 to a goodybag or not

And on the O2 one - if you use more than the 300 txts or 500MB of data then that credit will shrink Rapidly!

If your being penantic then not only did you forget to comment on the UNLIMITED free calls and texts for THREE months between giffgaff sim members for that £10 while not using any of the original £10

but calls on giffgaff are 8p a min to anyone and texts 4p I can even sent a text message to my son in America for 8p which is half the cost of O2

Anyway its all irrelevant - everyone has their preferences, you can see mine, and it is only my personal preference.

I wasn't being pedantic. Chill, Lew, GiffGaff don't give any payback cash and rewards for posting on here :D

I am on GiffGaff too and I find it to be a better deal than O2.

Any pedant can see if you take a goodybag your £10 credit is gone, though (Rapidly insert exclamation mark for emphasis)

the thread did start with orange or giffgaff

O2 or tesco seem to have decent deals but i like the simple interface with GG there website is cool also and for me £10 is cheap plus i got £20 for free with there random giveback, so im happy ive got £25 in my account for nothing so far hopefully more to follow

plus free texts and calls between GG all good get 10 mates on it you don't need to spend a penny get all your mates on it your in business £10 here and there you get 3 months calls

orange for me hasn't got a deal worth staying for, Three seem to be working hard at it £15 on contract htc desire but again 24 months sitting with same phone

Hi guy's, i'm considering joining giff gaff from vodafone. Just installed my new rom and changed the settings so my SF will work on vodafone. The question i have is;- does the giff gaff sim have the settings on it? Or do you have to manually enter them? If i have to enter them where can i find them?

Sorry if these are totally noob questions!

its easy to sort, go to the market now and download the 'giffgaff apn' app. just run it when you put the giffgaff sim in, its a doddle.

I was looking into this last month. I'm on Orange PAYG and put on a tenner every couple of months. I don't make many calls or do that much texting, so when I put on the £10 I find the freebies I get (100Mb data, 300 texts) lasts me the full month (until they expire). Then I use the £10 credit in the second month, and a bit into the third until it gets down to 99p when I stick on another tenner and the cycle continues!

GiffGaff looks good but I felt like I was getting spammed by the members of the community. I believe that their help is what makes the service and they get "paid" if they correctly answer your query?

So, while my question was answered pretty much within moments, the thread soon filled up (to three pages) with people saying exactly the same thing and that I should tick the accepted solution. To make matters worse I was then PMmed by loads of people requesting I get a giffgaff sim through their affiliation.
