TouchScreen not responding intermittently

Not sure if anybody can offer some advice. I have a fairly new Vega and have really been enjoying it, having giving up my iPad in favour of the Advent.

However I have a really annoying glitch. Everything will be working fine and then the touchscreen will just stop responding, the hardware back and volume buttons continue to work, the only way I can regain control of the touchscreen it is by doing a 6sec power off. I was running the stock build, and have just modded with Pauls r8 to see if that would improve things.

It feels like a hardware fault to me but I will be pleased to try anything else offered before taking it back to PC World.

Thanks in advance for any help..

What exactly were you doing when then screen became unresponsive? There are situations when web page content such as flash panes will not scroll if you place your finger on them whereas text will and some sites like shopping sites can play up if your browser settings are not correct. Let us know?

The other thing to try is calibrating the screen. To do this look at this topic and bookmark it for future reference then follow the link at Step 30 to see how to re-calibrate the screen.

OK a bit more info, the problem was far worse after Modding to r8, which makes me wonder if it isnt just hardware related. I have gone back to stock now but the problem does still crop up.

Also when I attempted to restorefromthe backup I'd made in clockwork recovery, everything came back but the wifi showed an error, I always thought I was quite good at this techy stuff but some of this has me scratching my head (don't even ask about trying to change the USB driver from the advent nvidia one) thanks again for any help from you. Btw I found vegatools 3.0 really helpful, many thanks to programmer.

It is totally random, and affects the whole screen. Sometimes it will even happen when I am using the standby wake-up slider (or whatever its called) . I have calibrated the screen and it appears to make no difference. I am using the Vega now and it has been OK for about a half hour. Sometimes it can be OK for hours, but when I flashed r8 it was far far worse, happening almost constantly..

Hmmm after re-calibrating it may be worth powering off > 6secs then back on again if you have not already done so to clear out the system a bit. Does sound peculiar that it comes and goes with time. Have you had any difficulties with your wi-fi comms at all?

Can you go into SETTINGS > ABOUT DEVICE and tell us what the Model Number, EC Version & Kernel Version fields say please?

When Flashing are you doing a full wipe? I had something similar and did a full wipe and flash as I've not had the problem since.

Model Number Vega

Android Version 2.2

EC version 1.9.0

Kernel version 2.6.32.9_P10_v1.09_20110211_DIX

Build number harmony 2.2 FRF91 20110211.101539

Should have mentioned I did a reflash from the adventvega exe and the wifi is back now (fights with bluetooth a bit, but i believe that is a known problem). The only thing I've added is the update for market and google apps..

Is a full wipe one of the options in recovery mode (cant get to the device atm to check)

I had a similar problem, pages in kindle wouldn't move on, the same for acrobat reader and the unlock wouldn't work sometimes. I tried multitouch visualiser and it showed it was picking up the touch as multiple touches and some apps didn't know what to do so ignored them.

I took it back and showed them at currys and they said it was hardware fault and gave me a new one (works perfectly now)

Don't think I can add much more as your problem is outside my experience but maybe later someone else will come up with some better suggestion otherwise it will have to be returned as Piran has advised. Good luck :(

Thanks, it hasn't frozen at all today . I really hate these type of intermittent problems.
