Guest ezynow Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Hi, Just got this tab today. As a newcomer to androids (few hours) – how do i multask? Like today, i had bbc iplayer webpage running radio live but i couldnt keep this active / on in the background and then browse to another website or for example start up someother app. I think it is different from a standalone musicplayer running in background and web browsing but is this possible too? This would be most annoying if i cant do this. How do i get round this? Help appreciated.

Have you tried the iplayer app? generally pressing "home" will keep any app open but move it to the background where you can open a new app.

I tried a new window but that has the effect of pausing the iplayer embedded radio stream. It seems the whole process is paused for that web page. So it seems that the two are not running simultaneously, but one application is backgrounded (assuming just the state is saved). I was listening to a live cricket match but when i returned to that web page the stream continued from the saved point. I actually thought i was listening to a cricket match in real time but the match was actually over !!! I see the funny side but this not proper multitasking, with a dual core processor i am assuming this can be done. I think on the steve jobs rip you off stuff, you only can have just itunes playing music and web browser running simultaneously. Hope this makes it clearer what issues i seem to be having.

I'm writing this whilst I am listening to LastFm - also listen whilst reading with cool reader etc. Regards :(
Guest thedicemaster Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 you can multi-task, but it's not uncommon for browsers to freeze "smart" content on a page such as flash. this is both to conserve cpu power, and to prevent you from having to dig through 20 different tabs to find which one is making noise. a dedicated streaming app is usually better if you want to do other stuff. they often have a notification bar entry to easily switch back to the streaming app.
Guest surly cat Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 TuneIn Radio has all the BBC stations (plus a whole lot more) and will play in the background (it puts a play icon in the notification bar). The current version is ad-free! :(
Guest ezynow Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Cheers guys - glad i got this over the other anything else :(
