http://www.tabletstoreuk.com/winslate-mult...psjgopis6tjm3b3 Can something like this be ported to the Vega it looks fairly fast and stable. It would be great because of the software out for windows. So any ideas?

Thanks.

[Edit:Watch the video]

Not possible with the current version of windows as the vega does is not work with x86 architecture but arm. There is an arm version of windows 7 in the making so it will be possible in the future

You could probably get windows 7 CE running but no desktop version. There is a version of the next windows(8) that has been designed for arm and used with tegra 2 however if that goes retail is anyone's guess but I doubt it given that every single application has to be ported to arm as well not just windows itself.

I´m not so sure that the ARM-version of Windows 8 will be targeted at Tegra-devices.

I rather think it will be targeted at Nvidias "Project Denver" which is an ARM-Based architecture targeted for Desktop and Server size and performance.

Project Denver doesn't exist yet. However the arm version of windows 8 does and that is what MS have been developing it on and it was actually demo'd using the same board as in our P10AN01 devices. But like I said it takes a lot of work to port the applications across so it might not go retail and if it does get the ARM in retail it will work on Tegra systems.

But at the end of the day it's really just MS trying to get more leverage on Intel to force them further into the market for low power CPUs for mobile devices. Which is an area Intel don't like and aren't especially good at. Even the once wunderkind Atom CPU is looking lackluster when sat next to a Tegra that plays HD video and games easily for less power and less money. They also want Intel to get a better grasp on graphics as every foray they have made into the area has fell short or got shelved before production.

I wouldn't want to even if it could be done

Last Tuesday Nvidia published a DIE-shot of "Project-Denver" core, so engineering-samples must exist.

However the arm version of windows 8 does and that is what MS have been developing it on and it was actually demo'd using the same board as in our P10AN01 devices.

Of course MS has to use some Hardware they can get in their hands on for their demonstrations and Tegra2 is the fastest ARM-device you can get nowadays. Obviously MS can´t use nvidias engineering-samples for their demonstrations (and most likely doesn´t want to use them anyway as they still might have errors)

But like I said it takes a lot of work to port the applications across so it might not go retail and if it does get the ARM in retail it will work on Tegra systems.

Of course software has to be ported as well but I don´t think it will be such a big problem. MS always had great developing-tools making it as easy as possible for developers for different platforms.

I think most important software will be available pretty soon for the ARM-version. Maybe they use some kind of universal binary as apple did when they changed the CPU-architecture.

Of course it will be possible to run Windows 8 on Tegra-systems, the question is rather how useful will it be.

And even if Windows 8 will go retail on Tegra-devices I doubt it will be Tegra 2, it will rather be the 28nm successor.

It's a nice hope!

The Windows kernel, once you strip it down, is mega quick and small. I use a PE boot CD which runs in about 120 meg with an explorer and some drivers. It's wickedly fast. Throw in some hardware support and the possibilities are delicious. But agree with others, probably won't support Tegra 2.
