Moving from Japenese Jellyfish 9 to FLB 10

Last week I followed the guide on orangesanfrancisco.co.uk and installed JJ9 on my blade. I'm now thinking of changing to the flb 10 ROM, as people say this gives better performance. How would I do this exactly? Should I just continue from step 4 (http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/android/how-to-choose-and-install-a-rom/), but use the FLB rom instead?

or is it done in a different way?

OR, should I not bother at all as the performance increase is neglible?

thanks

As you've installed JJ on there, you won't need all the steps...

I'm guessing you installed ClockworkMod on there to install JJ?

If so, copy the .zip file for FLB to the memory card, and reboot into recovery

Use CWM to install the new zip file (remember to clear user data, dalvik cache etc etc)

...as for if you should do it... why shouldn't you :(

Seems as if the different roms out there all offer different things for people - some get better battery life in JJ, some in FLB - so give it a go

Hope that helps

Will it wipe out all my memory like when I installed firmware for the first time?

You will need to do a factory reset before installing a new ROM. It's right there in Clockwork for you.

That does inevitably destroy all your data, apps and settings. But, if you back all of that up -- I use Titanium backup; well worth the price -- it's a simple procedure to restore everything. Apart from replacing the widgets on your homescreens. Golly, that gets old.

+1 for Titanium Backup

The free version will get you by... but the paid version gives you extra peace of mind and enough extra bells and whistles to make it worth the extra

As Eszed said, use TB to backup to backup your apps and re-install them afterwards

Done almost the same switch from JJ8 to FLB10b, to be honest I wouldn't bother doing it again, just not enough of a difference to make it a worthwhile change. IMO just wait a few weeks for CM7 to become a bit more stable

I went from Jap Jelly RLS9 to FLB 8a on one of my Blades and to be honest there isn't much difference.

They both run stable and fast for me. JJ9 isn't getting any more updates but I didn't experience any showstopping bugs.

If you do want to change then just put FLB on the sd card and reboot into Clockwork, wipe the caches/Dalvik cache, factory reset and then install FLB.

I also have a question about Titanium Backup:

What exactly is advisable to backup and restore?

There are so many entries. :D

The most important stuff are contacts, SMS/MMS, wireless networks and APN settings - perhaps some app settings, e.g. Angry Birds saves.

Has anybody tried "MyBackup root"?

Many thanks in advance.

Why would you have angry birds saves? Have you not managed to complete the game yet?

I use Mybackup Root since the developer is on XDA forums.

The interface doesn't look like a good fit with Androids GUI, but it works and works well. Take a while to do a full backup though if you're including apks, data and settings.

Also when you restore SMS the dates and times are all set at the day you did the restore, which is a pain, but I imagine Titanium is the same.

I have completed the game, but why should I restart from scratch when changing the ROM?

Seems like date & time could be restored for me. :(

I flashed CM7 Nightly 23 right now. I just wonder why Gmail isn't there, although I flashed the Gapps... :D

Thanks for your answers

EDIT: Now I know why Gmail is missing and can't be installed via Market afterwards: I skipped the setup like described here.

Did you do anything special to get mybackup root to restore the correct date and time in sms and mms?

This is my biggest bugbear when it comes to changing roms

Hmm, I'm not sure what I did exactly. Before reinstalling (because of the skip of the Google apps), I restored SMS/MMS with Titanium, didn't reboot and then restored SMS/MMS with MyBackup. MyBackup said it would now delete all existing messages. That's why I guess the backup of MyBackup was active before rebooting.

Anyway, after reflashing CM7 I used TB only to restore the messages and the result was the same (times have been restored).

Yes, that's true. When I moved from my SE W910i to the Blade I used My Phone Explorer to sync all my contacts and messages. All outgoing messages had the import time as time set. That was annoying.

I hope I could help you. Ah yes, my upgrade path was JJ9 -> CM7 Nightly 23.

For me I thought the menus didn't lag nowhere near as much as JJ9 in FLB there is very minimal lag and in JJ9 there is loads and battery life in FLB is also better
