Guest musicman100 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Hi, I have 2 San Franciscos - one I can get a 3G signal the other cannot. However I can pick up 2G fine and it can scan for 3G signals but cannot connect to them . Both phones are on the same settings. The phone can make calls and access the internet. Before I send it back to Orange is there a different aerial for 3G and 2G or is it the same one? Or could it be a software fault? Thanks
Guest gremlinman Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) I had this with mine! they told me it was faulty! 2G + 3G have different antennas Edited March 13, 2011 by gremlinman
Guest TouchyAndalou Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 I'm having a similar problem at the moment. Have you flashed a rom onto your device? I think it's an issue with FLB-Froyo that's preventing me from connecting to 3G. Incidentally, what's showing up in your status bar when you're connected to the Internet? Because "H" is 3G.

Also make sure that you or somebody else hasn't turned on 'use only 2G networks' in the settings. It's in wireless & network settings/mobile networks/GSM/UMTS options. I'm on FLB-Froyo 10 and always have a 3G in a 3G area.

I checked the 'use only 2G networks' setting but unfortunately that's not the problem for me. If I switch to 'WCDMA only', my signal strength bar dies completely and the back button starts flashing red to indicate that there is no data connection. Strangely enough, I turned Wi-Fi on tonight, let it search for a connection then turned it back off and 3G immediately returned. However, when I switched back to 'GSM/WCDMA auto', 3G up and left me again. It's a mystery.
Guest Staffyman Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I'm having the same thing on FLB Froyo 10b. I'm on Orange contract and ever since I flashed my device with this ROM, it won't connect to 3G. I've done the same as you TouchyAndalou, I've unchecked 'use only 2G', set it to WCDMA only, tried every Orange APN I can find and it still won't connect. I'm getting close to launching this thing through a window. It's frustrating as, aside from this, FLB Froyo 10b has been such a massive improvement over the stock ROM. I do, however, need to connect to 3G networks when I'm out and about so I'm not sure what to donow. Move to another ROM or hope it gets fixed (assuming it's a problem with 10b as the 3G worked perfectly on the stock ROM).

When I am away from home I rarely have wifi access, and in fact rarely 3g, so GPRS is essential for me. If it is in fact a fault with FLB I will have to flash another ROM - but loathe to do this after sorting all the glitches out after installing FLB.
Guest gremlinman Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Is not FLB. Orange did some diagnostics on mine! Apparently a fault with B05 models and some early B08 models!
Guest simonsays1 Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 I also had signal problems with FLB 10b. Everything else worked fine but the phone was always losing service and only getting 1/2 bars. I decided to try another ROM and just flashed Swedish Spring RLS2 and I was amazed to see 5 bars of signal inside my house !
