Guest GriZlore Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Any ideas? If my battery if totally flat, and displaying 0%, none of my many cables and plug combination will charge my Streak. No matter how long I leave it plugged in. They just can't get it off the 0% However, if I plug it into my PC, and charge it for a while so it gets higher than 0%, my chargers will charge it normally. This normal?

( iphone charger normally works ) However was able to charge using dell supplied streak charger. Edited March 14, 2011 by Gopu
Guest sharptv Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 yeah, i have this problem too. whenever my streak's battery is totally discharged, it cannot be charged directly using the wall charger, it has to be connected to a computer and once it boots up i can hook it back to the wall charger and it will charge normally, weird.
Guest GriZlore Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 totally weird! indeed... but is this the case with all Streaks? I have had several Streaks, and I have only just notice this, as I suppose I never really let the battery run totally, flat until it turns off. I have several batteries and each one seems to be the same ?
Guest Wee Thomas Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Weird? Not really. Likely, the chip that manages charging does a handshake over USB to negotiate for power draw. When the battery is low, perhaps it defaults to an extreme secure low power mode and only accepts power from sources that complete the handshake. I'm betting "smart" usb wall warts, perhaps not iphone certified ones since I think Apple uses a proprietary handshake, could charge it from zip.
Guest GriZlore Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Wee Tom, I have tried several, I'd guess that the official Dell charger supplied with the Streak should be able to charge a stone cold dead battery, if no then that's a poor show!

Guest nickshertzer Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Well, hate to be the fly in the ointment, but my Streak will charge off the wall charger at 0%. I ran my battery down until it turned off several times in the last week while on vacation. (Thankfully bought a spare before leaving). The streak will flash a black screen with a battery symbol and 0% and remain off for a few minutes. Then I hold the power button and turn it on after it juices a little. Not sure what the difference is. I have the White streak running 1.8.1 StreakDroid.

Guest Dogmann55 Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Hi all Just thought you should know running a Li-Ion or Li-Polymer battery completely flat should be avoided when ever possible as these types of battery really do not react well to being run flat in fact it shortens both thier longevity and their ability to take and hold a full charge they can be charged form any level to full with no harm but running them flat does damage them. Marc

Marc Sure, and they also last longer if not fully charged (true story), but who does that?
Guest Wee Thomas Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Wee Tom, I have tried several, I'd guess that the official Dell charger supplied with the Streak should be able to charge a stone cold dead battery, if no then that's a poor show! I think it is just a pure ac to dc adapter. No extra electronics. At ultra low cell voltages, the charger probably wants to use very small charging currents to be sure it doesn't screw up the cells that have been very well drained. USB supports multiple power modes. Those USB - AC adapters probably only provide the high current.
