Guest jr866gooner Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Stupidly I have managed to drop my phone into half a glass of coke and since drying it out its having random screen response issues. One minute I cannot select anything in the dock area (at best I have to press very hard) if im lucky that will work but other times like yester morning it was working absolutly fine as if nothing happened! I have a feeling its temp related and the sugary stuff that had managed to seep into the area just behind the screen reacts to the different tempratures. I have called my insurance people and they are sending out paperwork but im not sure what happens next.....they didnt explain very well. I cant be without my phone for long as I love it too much! Ill have to go back to using an ancient phone no doubt or they wil send me one and it will be ancient too!! Has anyone else experienced this with their blade?

Ummm There is no point in trying extreme trying techniques (Such as rice) as it isn't just water. Trouble with coke (and other sticky drinks) is the damage is done overtime. Your SF could be working perfectly, but really it is slowly being eaten from inside (Corrosion, mould etc.) Insurance maybe the way to go.. Although it maybe cheaper in the longrun to sell your blade as "faulty" and buy a new one :D

Guest Lew247 Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 You shoud have immediately taken the battery out immediately and NOT put it back in for at least several days after you were certain it was totally dry The only way to have cleaned and had a hope of getting it working would have been to strip it down as much as possible, wash the circuit board in water blow dry with a hairdryer and then using a toothbrush wash the board carefully with isopropyl acohol both sides of each board. This would have removed the coke residue and possibly stopped corrosion However you didn't coca cola is acidic, your board is dead and you have zero hope of getting it working again Sell it as spares on ebay and be more careful with the next one
Guest Sborovm Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) I Have a bad news for you. There is no chance to repair it if it fallen to the Coke. The Coke is not only sugar lemonade. It contains big amount of phosphoric acid that will totally destroy all contacts, electronics and so on. I am working for one company distributing audio systems and know from our service department what will happen with e.g. audio mixing desk when spilled with coke. The next time use glass of still water or bier. It is less agressive. ZTE Blade RIP. :D Edited March 14, 2011 by Sborovm
Guest markusj Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Lew247 is right, ethanol may be a solution. Take it apart as much as possible, take out the screens, battery, SD, SIM, and submerge the other parts into ethanol. You have to find an other way to clean the screen, ethanol will kill it. Sborovm is even more right, why not beer? :D
Guest ManMetDeHamer Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 i once gave my old samsung phone a beer bath, and even that destroyed it :D lucky i had warrenty i sendt it in and they replaced it.... guess they dint even check it.
Guest jr866gooner Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) Well Ive sent my SF to the repair centre following the successfull application for the insurance claim. I did it next day delivery so should be there before 9am today. What exactly are they likely to do? So lets say they replace the screen since its a bit dodgy, will they take a look at the board to see if that damaged with liquid? I mentioned it on the engineers sheet but not sure how these places work?! Edited March 31, 2011 by jr866gooner
Guest agreenjesus Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 You can get waterproof (down to 1 meter) holders on ebay for a few quid. Ideal if you fancy dunking your phone on a spur of the moment whim.
