Guest Richard Harnwell Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 First post from new android user so please be gentle! I'm very pleased with my first entry into the Android world. I've unlocked & rooted my San Francisco, and I'm running FLB-Froyo r10. I'm running JuiceDefender and JuicePlotter. I've set a sleep time for overnight, but I can see from the graph (and battery usage) that my phone is not actually sleeping during the specified time. I've posted this as a general question (rather than in the JuiceDefender forum or FLB-Froyo thread), as I don't feel I have the knowledge to ascertain what software (or more likely my misconfiguration) is most likely to be the cause of this problem. I'm hoping some kind people here might give me some pointers to help me analyse the problem better myself. My phone should be asleep between 0130 and 0730. At 0130 it had 88% battery, and at 0730 61%. A friend is using JuicePlotter on his SF, and he can see much less reduction over a similar time, plus that part of his graph is red (I assume this means it is sleeping). Spare Parts looks a very useful tool for understanding what is going on. Looking at it now ("since last unplugged") it shows: "Running" - 100% (I assume it is this that tells me it did not sleep)"Screen On" - 26.9%"Wifi On" - 16.9%"Wifi Running" - 16.0% For "partial wake usage" (from what I have read this might be important) the few apps it shows (Facebook, email, system etc) all show minimal usage. CPU usage is also very low for everything. "Network usage" shows (Google) Listen at what looks like 100%. I assume this doesn't account for keeping the phone awake though, as JuicePlotter doesn't show any network connection during the relevant time window (it just shows battery and temperature readings during that time, no "radio" or "scr"). I'm currently trying the latest beta of JuiceDefender, but the problem also existed with the normal release. I'd be most grateful to any suggestions on how I can further analyse, or what tools I can run to get more data to try to understand what is happening. Apologies if this problem has been answered here before. I have searched the forum for an answer but couldn't see anything 100% relevant, but that might be because of using poor search terms. Thanks in advance for any help!
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) the bad number seems to be "running 100 %" mine says 45.5 % seems normal 45.5% running 55 % sleeping you should see in statistic usage (in spare parts third menu) which application is the most used i think Edited March 14, 2011 by Phoenix Silver

Guest Lew247 Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 I'm using flb-r10b and have a long battery life at the moment its been 17h 7m 25s and its at 90% I'm not using any apps, widgets or gadgets to monitor or alter the battery use as they actually use the battery themselves which add to the battery drain The only thing I've used is a 5 minute phone call and the facebook widget updating every 30 minutes it was terrible when i got it first I deleted the facebook app that was in the rom by using a root uninstaller (android commander) and then I downloaded the facebook app again from the market and for some reason I don't know why but the battery life got a lot longer. Edit: One other thing I did that may have made the difference was once I had put the rom on the SD card ready to flash and BEFORE flashing it I FULLY charged the battery - as in charge it till its 100% and then turn the phone off and charge it again till the charge light is green, then did the same 2 procedures again but this time once the light was green I started the phone in recovery mode and flashed the rom The rom was installed with a 100% battery so that may be why its lasting a lot longer If you didn't then I suggest you try doing those steps with the battery but instead of flashing the rom when in recovery mode reset the battery stats instead
Guest oldfella Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 not sure about this, but I suspect that some apps dont end up getting their battery usage recorded see what other apps are running, if you dont need them close them after a recharge, then see if that makes any difference
Guest Richard Harnwell Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Thanks for the replies. I'm still keen to work out why my phone isn't sleeping, but I am now starting to contemplate uninstalling JuiceDefender, as I'm not convinced it is helping me much at the moment....
Guest oldfella Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 if its not sleeping it will wake on pressing the hard buttons kill each app in turn until you find out which is causing it obvious I know, but presumably you are putting it in airplane mode overnight
Guest Richard Harnwell Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 obvious I know, but presumably you are putting it in airplane mode overnight No, I'm not doing that as I believe JuiceDefender should be handling that itself - it certainly works for my friend without him putting his phone in airplane mode... I'm starting to get frustrated with this phone at the moment! At 2330 last night it was down to 8% so I charged it (AC) for an hour which brought it to 47%. I then did some web surfing / twitter viewing between 0030 and 0045, dropping it to 33% - seems like a big drop in 15 minutes. To clear any extraneous running processes before the sleep period I then did a reboot. When it came back up it was then showing 17%! It died at around 0730.... I've logged a support call for JuiceDefender so I'll update here if I get anything helpful back.
Guest Richard Harnwell Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 Nothing back from JuiceDefender, but my phone went into a perfect sleep overnight! at 0130 it showed 61%, and still 61% at 0800. Now I need to work out what had changed......

Guest Sweetchuck Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) Did you find out what caused it?. I am having the exact same problems. some days its sleeping and some not. I'm also now having this problem. Over the last week, my San Francisco battery has been absolutely crashing overnight. I go to bed (0100) with the battery at about 85% and usually wake up (0700) to find the <10% warning on the screen. Although I leave the 3G connection on, I have no scheduled tasks set to run overnight and the phone is put into bedside mode. What's baffling is that the battery seems to last much better during the day! I have owned my SF for over six months now, and never used to have this problem. Edited July 27, 2011 by Sweetchuck
