Guest Tadger Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) I have purchased 2 Orange SF. The white cased one (B8) works fine with newer roms, but the grey/black one is a B10 version. Whenever I try to put any custom Rom (oled/tft) on the B10 one the touchscreen will not work once it boots. As soon as I do a restore to the Orange B10 I backuped up, it works fine - no issues at all (works every single time). So has anyone else had any success it getting any custom rom to work on a Orange UK B10 rom ? If so which one ? I'm begining to wonder if different hardware component(s) were used in the B10 version of the phone ? BTW, just to clarify my screen type is "LEAD". Edited March 15, 2011 by Tadger

I believe i have a B10 OSF and I followed the simple rooting/flashing guides over at http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/ with no problems.
Guest Lew247 Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Yes I did one a couple of weeks ago it was a pig to get into bootloader mode(power on and volume up) but once done it was simple
Guest Tadger Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Which ROMs did you guys have success with please ?
Guest dibbles Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) My wife's SF was such a revision (grey case) and, apart from the power on and vol up not working, it has been fine with the FLB-Froyo r10 ROM. My white cased B8 had no issues with the bootloader mode and is also using the same ROM. Edited March 15, 2011 by dibbles
Guest Ron=) Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) This could be interesting.. perhaps the newest of the newest come with a new digitiser that fix the multi-touch inversion problems that the blade and nexus suffer from... (Skip to 1:30) Edited March 15, 2011 by Ron=)
Guest mrradmir Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) I bought OSF with B10 firmware 2 days ago and flashed (via RecoveryManager & clockwork) FLB and JJ without this issue. Edited March 15, 2011 by mrradmir
Guest JimJam707 Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Bought a B10 Model a few weeks back, rooted using a guide here and installed CM7. Good Times.
Guest Tadger Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Damn, that's weird then..... I can't believe that mine is faulty any way becuase it behaves flawlessly with the stock B10 firmware.... Any ideas anyone ?
Guest Tadger Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Kind of frustrating progress ... Just tried JJ9 and it worked...... for the first boot - allowed me to setup etc. Then after a reboot - same problem again. Touchscreen not responding, but all other buttons OK.. same problem after each reboot then from then on... Time to pull the battery and try again :D
Guest thelongmile Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 I brought one last week, I 'assume' it was B10, but I had a hell of a time getting CWM onto it, as soon as that was on, I chucked a ROM onto it and it was fine, but it did seem to be a lot more resilient to it!
Guest 2brains Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Seam to be several threads on this issue.. Just got a new grey OSF today, all ok out the box, loaded Clockwork no problem, loaded FLB, touchscreen not working, loaded Modaco rom, still nothing. Downloaded stock roms from here still not working :-( Stuck at the moment
Guest ronc2000 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) For those with touch screen problem after flashing to new rom, can you state the colour and IMEI number? Just the first 4 numbers of the last 7 digits - i.e. I have one (B08) ending with 069xxxx (working!). This might give a hint to what may or may not work with a new rom. Hi, did you use the ClockworkMod Recovery to backup the Orange B10? I'm getting the new black one today and want a good back in place before modding further.

Switch on again while holding the down "volume -" key on the right hand edge. Within a few seconds you should get to the recovery screen. just scroll down to the 'backup and restore' line, select it then choose 'backup' again.

Grey 0B10 with IMEI ending 078nnn-n (positions 9-15 incl) JJ was working yesterday when I flashed it but I turned it off overnight and now screen is wholly unresponsive to touch.
Guest ronc2000 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Grey 0B10 with IMEI ending 078nnn-n (positions 9-15 incl) JJ was working yesterday when I flashed it but I turned it off overnight and now screen is wholly unresponsive to touch. Did you flash it back to stock rom and then?
Guest Society Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Did you flash it back to stock rom and then? Too dumb to have backed-up the stock ROM to SD before starting to follow flashing instructions and couldn't see USB storage from WinXP (although Device Manager is happy with the various ZTE drivers) so decided I ought to stop digging until I've read some more. Having said which.... A. I pulled battery and booted into recovery while connected by USB then selected Reboot option - and touchscreen worked! B. Then tried straight boot with USB connected but screen did not work. C. Repeated boot into recovery and selecting Reboot option with USB connected (per A) and screen worked! D. Booted into recovery and used Reboot option (without USB connection) and screen worked. E. Booted directly once more (no USB) and screen worked! F. Repeat E with same success. G. Repeat E once more with same success. Not exactly a "designed" test and I have no idea what's going on but assume that the USB connection was irrelevant (battery level was OK anyway) and hope that any future non-functioning of touchscreen can be reset by booting into recovery and using the Reboot option (perhaps more than once). Will advise outcome if/when that happens. Anyone else with non-responsive touchscreen problems able to reproduce?
Guest sambartle Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Has anyone tried a ROM other than JJ ROMs.. I have a B10 and it works fine with Modaco V12 with some tweaks. Has done for a few weeks since I bought it. Can you get a logcat to see if anything weird gets logged on boot? Edited March 16, 2011 by sambartle
Guest DrEzkimo Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 hmm was advising a friend to get one of these as well, is the consensus to hold off until this is sorted or is this fella just unlucky?
Guest sambartle Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Both myself and my brother have bought B10's in the last month from 2 different locations, and both were fine, so unless theres another really really new batch out with some issues it looks like he's just unlucky.. although there are a few other people with similar symptoms..
Guest as500 Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 My first SF (IMEI not recorded) arrived a couple of weeks ago, but was sent back to be replaced as touchscreen not working after putting JJ9 on (after following instructions on orangesanfrancisco.co.uk). I flashed the replacement tonight with FLB R10, working fine. IMEI ends in 084xxxx (phone was on a stock Orange B10 UK rom before flashing). Both phones came from onestopphoneshop.co.uk Either there's a bad batch out there or a very new batch has some difference?

The "success" was an illusion: turned out that touch functions on boot on an apparently random basis. I tried FLB r10b instead of JJ9 and that shows same characteristics. It looked to be OK for a few boots but then touch became elusive - needing to boot repeatedly until touch is active. The 0B10 arrived from CPW on 10th so presumably fairly new stock. Looks like there's no stock OrangeB10 ROM for Clockwork so I'll see how far I get with TPT
Guest DrEzkimo Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 anyone else had either success or failure on B10 as my mate is chompoing to get one
Guest StevenHarperUK Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 If its a hardware change then a dev is going to have to have one in their hands to work out what's changed. The Source code has been asked for (from ZTE) for this one - but that can take a bit. If its a partition / soft change - then the TPT will fix it. Someone who really knows what their doing needs to get their hands on one of these new devices.
