Tethering Vega with iPhone over Bluetooth

Hi,

Firstly thank you to this forum, it has been very useful getting things setup.

I am currently running R8 on my Vega with Flash re-installed and all is good.

However, I was wondering if it were possible to "tether" my iPhone 4 with the Vega over Bluetooth for internet browsing?

I have managed to do this with my iPhone to MacBook over Bluetooth successfully.

I tried to do it yesterday, however, not sure if any additional software is required.

Regards

Stuart

Have you got the extra bolt on for tethering with your provider? if you have the latest software on your IPhone you can use wireless hotspot which would be better but there is still an extra cost with your provider.

Hi Stuart,

I had exactly the same issue and couldn't connet the 2 over bluetooth. The Iphone 4 refused to allow it (precisely why I didn't buy an Ipad. The Apple restrictions are suffocating).

Good news tho'.

The latest IOS from Apple has "personal hotspot" as an addition in the settings tab. Activate personal hotspot on the phone and your Vega identifies it as a WIFI provider, just like your home WIFI.

Update your phone in Itunes to the latest firmware and your all set to share your 3G signal with the Vega.

Been using it all weekend.

Hi Guys!

Super fast replies - great forum!

Thanks for the tip - I will update my iPhone today and let you know.

In regards to Minimonkeys post - I believe the Three network as tethering as "included" in it's iPhone 4 offering. I have seen this posted online in a few different locations, however, I will confirm with Three before putting any serious amounts of data through it. Thanks for the tip though.

As far as i know, you should be ok with 3. I have a 10 pound a month sim only contract with my iphone 3gs whichhas 1gb data included per month and regularly use that for tethering without any issues. 3 seem to have the attitude that as long as you've paid for it it doesn't matter how you use it. Would be interesting to know what their view is if you ask them officially though :0)

I have the Iphone 4 with the one contract and they confirm me that I can Tether it as much as I want and I wont pay any more.

You will now need to search for the wireless network created by the iPhone on your Vega.

The iphone 3gs only has usb or bluetoooth tethering no wifi tethering.. another apple decision to try and make you upgraade to the iphone 4. I cant get my vega to connect to 3gs via bluetooth tethering

Apple = quality gear, but crap connectivity issues deliberately manufactured by mr jobs

If you jailbreak you can run MyWi or PDANet to create an ad-hoc WIFI hotspot on any iPhone - you don't really need a tethering plan then either...3 are quite happy for you to tether using their All You Can Eat Data plans apparently as well.
