Guest mercury97 Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) Just thought Id share my experiences with my San Fran recently... The digitizer was responding very erratically to touch, sometimes not responding at all in the bottom quarter of the screen and a few test showed it going crazy and registering two presses when there was only one etc... anyway, I called orange to report the problem got through to tech department who agreed that it would need replacing.. then just at that moment they decided that as I had purchased from Argos rather than orange it would have to be sent to a third party (repairmob.com) for repair "at no cost". (The also seem to trade under regenersis on the paperwork I received) Had to reinstall the stock firmware (I used the B10 TPT) The cost turned out to be a £17 shipping and handling fee to cover special delivery both ways!! Posted monday, came back saturday morning with a complete new screen, all working so far. Bit annoyed about the non free warranty repair and not having the phone for a week but its done now. It's good that there is a repair option but it can get a little costly, on top of the £17 handling fee, if they can't fix the phone they charge you an extra £15 for their time - so even under warranty if it can't be fixed it will have cost you £32 if you want it back. Given that the bits can be sold on ebay for ~£44 (Battery 12, Back cover 12, front facia 20) you may be better off just getting a new one (as an orange customer I think you get £20 off the £99 price) so £35 for brand new phone vs at least £32 for a repaired one.

I think you would only incur the extra £15 fee if it wasn't a warranty repair.. i.e. if you had just sent it in for repair privately. I only paid £17.... £17 more than I should have IMHO though!

Yes that's what I thought at first but the FAQ is very ambiguous on that point, they mention "what if it can't be repaired" before "what if it's not under warranty".
Guest toytown Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 As you purchased the phone from Argos, why didn't you contact Argos, who would have replaced the phone for you for free?

Guest Frankish Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Sales of goods act states that the retailer (Argos) is responsible for the product for minimum 6 months. They could have directly replaced the handset same day. With a receipt of course or some other proof of purchase,
