Advantages of 2.2 rom over stock 2.1 rom?

Waiting in anticipation of flbr11 release, I am running flb9b 2.2 rom at the moment and it is working fine with hardly any problems (other than the occasional hang/lockup/fc which is more likely the apps or me "playing/experimenting"rather than the fault of this excellent rom (Thanks flibblesan).

As an experiment, I would like to switch back to 2.1 stock de-oranginated rom just to see whether there is a great difference between 2.1 and 2.2 (To be honest, I didn't notice that it was any quicker/smoother/better battery life etc when I "upgraded" to 2.2) but I would like to ask the following:-

I am assuming that I can still run Titanium Pro & root/Superuser/MybackupPro/Clockwork/Rom Manager/ on the 2.1 rom and if I find that it is not as good as flb9b 2.2, can I use RomManager etc to restore it to how it is now if I do a "backup" on RomManager/Clockwork? (I realise that I can't always restore apps installed on 2.2 rom onto 2.1 and vice versa but will go to the market if I can't restore all my apps & data) I am happy about installing/changing roms back and forward from my SD/laptop etc using ClockworkRecovery

My main query is, what are the greatest advantages of using 2.2 over 2.1? (not including speed/smoothness etc because as I said before, I have found little difference -as far as I can remember) - are there any facilities of the SanFranciso (ie GPS/GoogleMaps&Navigation etc which will not work on 2.1 and are exclusive to 2.2?

i was underwhelmed to be honest at first jumping from 2.1 to 2.2 but after playing with it and overclocking it it made it so much more responsive giving it a more expensive feeling ui.

now been on cm7 for a couple of days as its 2.3.3 gingerbread and am mighty impressed so far!

always look forward, never back!!!

1) yes you can run all those apps

2) yep, backup on clockworkmod return your phone to the exact state it was in

3) no, but there is apps 2 sd, the proper one. you can store some of your apps on your sd card

Advantages of 2.2 include built-in WiFi tethering and moving apps to SD (both of which can admittedly be done otherwise in 2.1), and a faster Java virtual machine.

Yes.

Its important to realise that faster Java means faster apps.

And you need to move to 2.2 (or newer) to be able to do Voice Dialling over Bluetooth.

Official Google maps will only do offline caching in 2.2, not in 2.1.

2.2 also has inbuilt support for Shoutcast (i.e. Winamp et al only stream from shoutcast in 2.2)

Ooh, can you recommend a specific app to do this? I have been reading about Smart Vocal Dialer (2 or 3), Voice Dialer HF, and TopVoiceControl but people keep reporting problems/difficulties. I would like to be able to make a call without having to press any buttons on the handset (only the one on the Bluetooth headset).

Try Vlingo - its free.

I'm not sure what profile it needs from the headset to start listening on a Bluetooth button press. (May not work for you - I have a headset that - just - last number redials on button press - when not ringing and not in-call.)

Vlingo uses a datalink to process the speech it has recorded.

And with pre-2.2.1 Android there is an Android bug which reboots the phone when you lose Bluetooth connection (like powering off your headset) after recording.

Are you sure about this richard? I can't find anything on Google that says so but I also can't find anyway to store maps offline on my 2.1 San Fransisco!
