Guest userof2 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Hi, I've had an Orange San Francisco since December now, and I was lucky enough to manage to grab one of the last remaining OLED models from the Carphone Warehouse. Unfortunately, today I got my phone out to discover that the display would not switch on. I was quite confused, as no damage was immediately visible. However, when the light catches at the right angle, several diagonal cracks are visible running along the OLED panel itself. The glass panel on the front is completely undamaged. If I turn it on, I can still use the right gesture to unlock it, and the sound still works, etc. So the touch input is fine, just the display that's cracked. Are there any ways of getting a spare OLED panel? I'd be really disappointed to exchange it as part of the warranty and get an LCD model back, assuming that the OLED models haven't returned yet. I'll go ahead and ask the usual question; is the difference that noticeable? I guess it's my fault, but I still can't figure out how it happened :D , it could only be shock damage because of the way the glass panel survived but the screen didn't. I don't seem to recall doing anything to it that would cause that. Anyway, any advice? Or should I just send it back? Edited March 16, 2011 by userof2
Guest userof2 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Also, if my phone was bought from the Carphone Warehouse, would I need to contact Orange or CPW about the problem?
Guest HMZX Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Also, if my phone was bought from the Carphone Warehouse, would I need to contact Orange or CPW about the problem? if you talk to orange, most of the phones they send back as replacements are OLED, as most of them are old refurbished models TFT LCD is perfectly fine, your TV probably has that type of screen and you don't complain, so...

I can vouch for that, I have just received a replacement SF from Orange and that has an OLED screen instead of the TFT I had before, initial impression I probably prefer the TFT but it doesn't make that much difference really. BB Tbh I would go back to a TFT is needed.. True I would miss the black levels (Only because they fascinate me, I love staring at the app tray) But I wouldn't miss the colour burn (When the brightness up to high in a dark room. The colours literally burn your eyes) Put it this way.. I wouldn't pass up a great deal on the ZTE Skate just because it doesn't have an OLED screen
Guest Spies Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 the diagonal lines you speak of are part of the digitizer
