"My Pictures" screensaver not working

hi I have an HTC HD mini - love it mostly.... I like to use the My Pictures screensaver option - and have had it working on this phone at times ("Play as screen saver when connected to a computer for 2 mins")...

however from time to time (including now for some time) it stops working. Or rather it looks like it kicks in "Pictures and Videos" flashes up briefly in the status bar, but then nothing happens :-S

The option is (I think) OK in registry settings.... not sure what else to check - there are pictures in the folder....
