Guest dmandic Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 This is one feature that i miss most: ability to play videos from my shared windows drive. So, if anybody else has some experience with cifs manager and playing videos from windows shares, please help. Guess we need compiled cifs,ko module for 2.2 Streak (i tried for Galaxy and DHD, but does not work), so if anybody has it, please share. Thanks everybody,
Guest Green750one Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 I use uPnPlay. Connects to my win 7 media server no probs. Rockplayer runs all my vids no probs. I think rockplayer can connect natively too but haven't really played with it

I think rockplayer can connect natively too but haven't really played with it yes, that seems more convinient, but my expiriences with windows and dlna and upnp and mobiles are not so good. besides, this include transcoding, which is not a option. and this with cifs support is proven and works, i just need cifs.ko for my kernel.
Guest fards Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 steve did compile it in to his streakdroid kernel some time ago
Guest mrmrmrmr Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 1.8.1 doesn't have cifs module. does anyone know where we can find the kernel source that 1.8.1 uses ? I can compile cifs.ko given the kernel source..

Guest dmandic Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 steve did compile it in to his streakdroid kernel some time ago hi Fards, you are one of Streak Gurus and i'm thankfull you responded to my post. in which version of steve's rom can i find it? i tried in 1.8.1 and 1.5.1 and there was no cifs.ko in system/lib/modules will it work with my stock 2.2 318 rom? and can you point me how to get kernel, i.e. how to find steve's webgit. user mrmrmr generously offered to make module (which is beyond my knowledge i think...) thanks in advance!
Guest d750i Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 There's no need for cifs module app File Expert stream movies over smb with Rock Player of course.
Guest dmandic Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 There's no need for cifs module app File Expert stream movies over smb with Rock Player of course. does not work to me. it states that some kind of modified rom & root is needed (guess this is same thing - it requires some kind of samba module in rom). i'm with stock froyo 318 rooted, but when i tried mount fails. on which rom are you? when i try to open within file expert, with rockplayer or vplayer, it fails also (vplayer crashes and rockplayer pops that system player cannot play this file). so, this is not a solution that worked to me.
Guest LorD CLockaN Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Pa onda instaliraj sambu :D Ja sam to pokusavao davno, ali nisam uspio nista jednostavno.. Than install samba :(
Guest mrmrmrmr Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 yeah, where can I find Steve's gitweb and kernel source ?
Guest dmandic Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 yeah, where can I find Steve's gitweb and kernel source ? hey buddy, while we wait to find steves webgit, here is something i found: Dell kernel source. See if you could use it to make module. http://opensource.dell.com/releases/streak/ i think that 3.09 is froyo and you can see there is alpha gingerbread! so, there is maybe hope for us with Streak 5...

So then update to firmware 2.2.2 aws 345 it works there.

I can't use that source to build a module for Steve's rom. I need the exact source that he compiled. apart from that, it's nice to see Gingerbread source is released for Streak. now, we need some hero to compile it for us...

Guest XsCode Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Es File Explorer does windows shares and video playing all in one without root... could you make cifs from that kernel for us that are on stock froyo ROM? it would mean a lot to me and others...
Guest dmandic Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Es File Explorer does windows shares and video playing all in one without root... no, I don't believe that's true. I use es file explorer everyday, and although it shows network drives perfectly, it does not play fuzz videos from remote disk. it tries to copy it to sdcard and play it.
Guest mrmrmrmr Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) could you make cifs from that kernel for us that are on stock froyo ROM? it would mean a lot to me and others... I'll try that for you. I am not sure because I had done similar build for Steve's older kernels. However, I hadn't such experience for an official rom/kernel. Let's see... edit: but I need the kernel source for that as well. where can I get it ? btw, can anyone poıint me to Steve's recent kernel source ? maybe 1.9.x ? Edited March 20, 2011 by mrmrmrmr
