Vega Dock - Not impressed

First off, I am not whining about the price - I accept that it is actually pretty high for what it is, and higher than expected - but I chose to pay it.

But damn there's a ridiculous design flaw.

I have my Vega in the official folio case, which has a hole for the dock connector. Point being "Official" and is designed to be docked in-case.

I have the official dock... So why the hell can I not dock it while it's in the case? Because that damn back-plate is too close. I've tried sitting it, forcing it, turning it upside-down and aligning it - no joy.

This is disgusting and totally unacceptable. Way to balls-up on what was almost a dream product (the Vega itself) PCW!

It was mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Maybe you could take the thing back, it's not like they're putting much information on any of the Vega stuffs boxes.

Yeah, I would do, but it's the only dock available and so I'll have to make do. But either way, it's VERY shoddy! It shows a complete lack of forethought. If the case didn't have the slot, then it would be almost acceptible - but the fact it has the slot says "We plan on making this dockable", and yet they haven't!

I may dremel the back-stand off and epoxy it slightly further back I guess?

Nik, before making a critique of a designers 'forethought', maybe a bit more deep thought might be appropriate. You dont know why the slot on the case was was put there do you, so you are making the assumption that the manufacturers of the case talked to the manufacturers of the dock and that's why the case has a slot for the dock (following me?).

The likelihood is that the manufacturers of the case (Proporta) were given the device and just cut the holes to fit the ports. They wouldn't have known about the design of the dock I'd imagine.

Bear in mind, had the dock been designed to take the Vega cased and uncased it would require some adjustment, making it more expensive. Had the dock been designed for a cased Vega it would have no doubt been a poor fit for one uncased which I would imagine would be the majority of the devices out there. The designer of the dock would undoubtedly be thinking about the majority of users who may use the dock, and most of those I would imagine would be docking uncased.

Unfortunately it appears you are having to go through the onerous task of 'taking your Vega out of the case, then putting it back in again'. If it makes you feel better you may wish to add up the valuable seconds you lose in undertaking this task, work out how much this is in financial terms relative to your salary and then try to sue through the US courts for the inconvenience.

I've made the case (pardon the pun) for value versus cost on this forum before but I think in terms of style the cost to me is equal or less than the value and so I am happy with mine.

I know that all 3 items are branded and sold by PC World. They should think these things through!

Or just built with enough play to accommodate both.

I find your tone condescending and petty. I have a number of reasons for not wanting to uncase my device, but have no desire to get into a debate with someone of that tone.

I got the dock – I really like it, very useful. The design is excellent. It’s been very handy and used every day. The alignment aid is for the connector is great. The Mk 2 case is OK to.

I feel DSG have a good value product and well thought out accessories.

I too think it a good product for my purpose, but it isn't fit for the purpose Nik bought it for. Nik's expectation that he could use it for that purpose is very reasonable, so he should take it back and get a refund.

Check out the sale of goods act, Nik. Then take it back.

I agree. Try to find a Tab / Dock / Case, that matches your expectations.
