Guest cmberry20 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Bugger!! http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2...skate-arrive-uk
Guest That-Guy Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Your link didn't work for me but this one does: http://www.dialtosave.co.uk/mobile/news/20...in-summer-2011/
Guest ronc2000 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Skate spec (and projected price) will be popular if launched in the next couple of months. By Summer it is going to fall behind many other phones and with not so competitive price tag. If they are going to release it in a few months time, they might as well shelf it.
Guest 90180360 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Any budget phone with ARMv7 and Adreno 205 in sight?
Guest Victor von Zeppelin Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Any budget phone with ARMv7 and Adreno 205 in sight? I thought the Huawei X5 or whatever was supposed to be pretty much the same as the Skate under the hood. What amazes me most is the line "In 2010 ZTE sold 60 million handsets worldwide and of this 2 million were smartphones, all the San Francisco model. This represents seven to eight per cent of UK smartphone sales, which ZTE has said it aims to double for 2011." 7 to 8 percent off of one phone in only 3 months (September launch to the end of the year)? WOW!
Guest hecatae Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 The 800MHz processor just didn't cope very well with running Android 2.3 Gingerbread on the phone. The screen is unresponsive to swipe gestures and there is significant lag when moving between home screens and loading content. Read more: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/review...s#ixzz1H3Rj3Yun now that's a worry
Guest Azurren Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 now that's a worry Heh the Stock Blade lags just the same :D Some of the devices on display at the MWC were prototypes and have been left running for days. Some lagged badly whereas others worked perfectly :( But all in all the only thing you can expect from this devices (vs the blade) is a bigger screen and better camera. Don't think it's going to fly

Don't think it's going to fly I have to agree. The hardware specs (RAM, cpu and gpu for example) are a marginal revision at best. The biggest revision for the Skate (when compared to the Blade) is a larger screen and a better camera. I would have to say that if you already do not own a Blade, or you do, but it's faulty, then get the Skate. Otherwise, spending another set of cash is not too justified for such a minor revision which compared to other solutions severely lags behind in hardware. If you own a blade and it works, then wait for the device after Skate that comes out which has better specs. I think I'll wait until ZTE comes out with dual-core smartphones and 4.5" screen (although, judging from their current release schedule, the market might be overflown with devices that are quad core by then). We just have to wait and see.
Guest Azurren Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 I have a feeling that ZTE will start releasing 1ghz qualcomm snapdragons after all the other manufactures fully switch to Tegra 2 chip sets :D Always a step behind, always cheaper As they can buy up outdated chips / hardware for bargain prices Saying that though ZTE is rapidly becoming one of the smartphone giants.. They may do a HTC Make a name for themselves then charge a premium
Guest hecatae Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 might just wait for the WindowsPhone7 due at the end of the year
Guest Azurren Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 might just wait for the WindowsPhone7 due at the end of the year As it stands at the moment you'd regret it :D
Guest hecatae Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 As it stands at the moment you'd regret it :D minimum specs required 1ghz cpu WVGA 800 x 480 screen 256mb ram and it'll be by ZTE http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-co...-success-936631 However, the company promised a Windows Phone 7 handset would hit last year, when European CEO Lin Qiang was quoted as saying: "We have our Windows Phone 7 that we are going to launch in Q4 at the end of this year."

Well.. Yeah.. Don't get me wrong I'm not a fanboy. But at the moment Windows Phone 7 is a lot worse than iOS
Guest Rotmann Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Looks bad for the WP7 + ZTE Marriage. Linky.
Guest chimas Posted March 22, 2011 Report Posted March 22, 2011 Microsoft is starting to p me off. why are they trying to be like apple. I mean I'm window fan boy but the amount of rules that both the phone manufacturer and software developers is becoming quickly annoying.
Guest Rotmann Posted March 23, 2011 Report Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) I find WP7 quite good and may consider it as an upgrade sometime, it just works, updates happen OTA on all devices and they already have 10.000 apps and games. Sure it has some things to be added, but look at android, it's still heavily under construction. In my opinion they did the right thing, something between android and iOS. So you say WP7 is between Android and IOS. You mean like this? AndroidWP7IOSSo why is it good thing to move from first and best to second which is worse? :D
Guest Rotmann Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) I meant as an experience not like "what's better". You still have some personalization options, different devices to choose from like android, but the damn system just works perfect, lagless I mean, standardized, updates come over the air, apps get checked to do not have to install every crap infected app on the phone, something like iOS... if you know what I mean. I hate the fragmentation, the careless attitude of google and the unusability of the majority of the android phones out of the box. As the time will pass, if developers make money and develop for WP7, it is a damn good alternative. Edited March 25, 2011 by Rotmann
