Guest GX390 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Hi guys I'm just wondering how you backup and restore and keep all of your apps as I want to try a few new roms out but just try them not keep them Thanks
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 if you don't keep new Roms the easiest way is to do a backup with clockworkmod it makes a backup of the phone totality

Sounds like Mybackup root is a better option then? I was wondering which one to use. With mybackup you don't have to click like a madman on every app you want to install in the free version, and you can also back up and restore MMS(you can't do that with titanium backup?). But seems like more people is using titanium backup, so I'm wondering if there is something titanium backup is better at?
Guest Kthulhu Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Mybackup root seems like a good app, and it has an easy interface . I used it but the schedule option did not work and sometimes crashed when installing apps - maybe they have fix this now. If it does the job to you: stick with it. Titanium does much more other things: uninstall everything (like oange crap in your stock room), backup everything (including contacts, sms, etc), freez apps, etc.. And it is one of the top android apps for many people. Any case, for sms/contacs, it is better to use an specific app. Because if you change rom or from 2.1 to 2.2, you maybe able to restore all app+data but not all system data. Unless you are a bit of an advace user with Titanium Backup.
Guest insurgente Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 going to indulge my n00bness here and bump this rather than create a new thread... I finally dared to install a custom ROM today (Swedish Spring) and following Steven's guide, it was extremely easy...bravo is there any way to bring the apps I had when I was on the stock ROM? I did a full backup in ClockwordMod (which was huge) but at the time I wasn't familiar with titanium backup...oops :/....can I bring over apps (such as ones that arent on the market anymore) and bring them up to the point I left them? (i.e. not lose my progress on angry birds?! B) ) also, any way to get hold of the old texts? I should've backed them up with a specific program, but here we are....as I backed up the entire phone, are they in there somewhere? thanks :D

Once back you your old one, install mybackup or titanium and backup all apps, system settings and databases you want via the chosen tool. Now, you can restore back to your Swedish spring install from clockworkmod, install the backup tool you used and restore apps/settings/dbs you like. As a disclaimer, I had some weird things happen to my Swedish spring install when restoring back settings, so be careful, however YMMV B)
Guest insurgente Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 excellent tip! will try that tomorrow... cheers.... when i'm more of a pro, i'll be skipping through ROMs in no time
