Hi all

As a Newcomer to this site and to Advent Vega (not arrived yet) I wondered if it is, or ever will be possible to use the Vega as a infra red remote?

I do know that it hasn't got an infrared port but as this would be a extremely usefull application for my Vega I wondered if it would be possible to either have a usb infrared transmitter or even better an infrared transmitter that could be controlled by blue tooth?

If the hardware is out there somewhere I would love to know - I might even be able to write the software for it !

thanks

Mike

Hi

The only way I know of is by using the wifi. Having a server type prog on the media centre will do it.

If your talking about general IR devices rather than a PC type then an IR blaster remotley controlled via wifi would work but need a PC :D(

I use patato server on my media centre and that lets me control and play the media centre on my android phone, unfortunatley it uses a media player that dosnt work on Tegra so cant run it on my Vega

Good question and one that I'm asking myself.

I saw these (please remove if pics aren't allowed) though am having a bit of a mare finding one in the UK - plenty of bigger ones about.

I'm thinking the vega could be used as a 'kingsize' Philips Pronto given the right software? I know years ago I bought pronto software to run on my PDA.

Like this - Pronto or this - Logitech Harmony

I'm sure someone more talented than myself could come up with some super swish app for it - which taking into account the price of Logitech's of this size may sell really well on the app market! (providing you can get these micro usb adaptors)

I did find this on another website Link but it certainly isn't as pretty as the Pronto/harmony.

There are several companies who have developed such a solution for the iPhone/iPad already such as Thinkflood with their Redeye Mini product and Gear 4 with the UnityRemote system but these have yet to port the apps to Android but I'm sure it won't be long in arriving. :D

Hmm the Redeye would be good, looks as if it plugs into the headphone socket? If so would be ideal for the vega as you wouldn't need the flap open (if you used a usb device).

Ah! That sounds promising.

Fortunately I have a windows 7 server literally stuck to the back of my PC so I wonder is there a usb type blaster?

then of course there is the software problem

I could probably capture the IR codes ok in the pc and i would assume there will be software with the blaster if I find one. then i need the software for the Vega!

If it was a windows platform i'd probably do it myself quite easily as I write in dotnet but otherwise I'm going to have source it somewhere or learn Java !

thanks
