San Francisco Turning Itself Off And Hanging

Hi all,

Having initially loved my OSF so much that I bought the wife one, I am now getting quite annoyed with it. It goes through phases of switching itself off and refusing to turn back on until I remove the battery and put it back in again. It also reboots itself a lot and is particularly slow at loading things and will hang for 20-30 seconds whilst opening a message or going up or down a menu for example.

The battery issues are also something I am confused over as the wife’s phone will not need charging for at least 2 sometimes 3 days. Fair enough she doesn’t use it as much, but even when I don’t use my phone at all it still needs charging pretty much every 24 hours or less which is pretty crap really for a new phone!

I have an OLED phone and I have rooted it to remove all the Orange stuff. Incidentally the wife’s phone, a white TFT one, also rooted with Orange stuff removed, does not have any of these problems I’m having on mine. She is also able to run LauncherPro homescreen which I really like and I was able to use for a bit, but it still kept crashing so I have returned to the default homescreen.

I’m wondering if putting a custom ROM on will help keep it smooth and running properly and stop it from turning off all time?

NB, the battery is charged when it turns itself off and even plugging it in to charge doesn’t wake it up.

Any help on these issues would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jon

Edit: Having had a good flick through this forum I have unistalled the original Facebook app to see if that helps speed things up. But I guess the turning off issue is something else?

Installing a custom ROM will DEFINATELY help you. The difference between stock and custom is AMAZING. Even if it is froyo (android 2.2) not gingerbread (android 2.3). Froyo ROMS tend to be quite stable these days, as they are very mature. But I recommended "FLB froyo", due to the fact it is very mature, incredibly stable, fast, and is still supported by the developer.

Thanks for that info. I'll look into a new ROM now then.

What would cause the phone to switch off and/or reboot?

You need to check the log files on the phone to see if anything is recorded. Every phpne is different as we all install a different mix of apps.

p.s. don't ask how to do the above.....read up on setting up ADB on your PC and Linux log files :D
