i cannot hear my phone ring but have it on full volume

hi, just got my first android phone yesterday ( san fran) i unlocked it to t mobile . getting good 3g signal. only problem is i cant hear my phone ring . i have checked the volume which is on max. its not in silent in the settings . when i get a call if i put the speaker to my ear i can hear the faintest of my default ringtone . what could be wrong please.

Take it back to orange with the Orange SIM card in place and explain the problem, they may give you a replacement
