New Type of San Francisco with Non Working Fastboot

Hi everyone.

I'm sad to report that there is new version of the Orange San Francisco out. I have three of them and none "stop at the green android" when turned on while the up arrow is pressed. I've had other San Franciscos but never had this problem before.

Ask Mr Pigfish says it's a 1st gen model.

Firmware is 2.1-update1

Does anyone else have this problem?

I was supposed to post these phone tomorrow morning, so any quick advice on how to get another firmware installed on the phones would be awsome !

Cheers

I've tried the Recovery Manager alternative: rooted the phone with SuperOneClick v1.7 (the UniversalAndroot v1.6.1, recommended by Sebastian404 in the Clockwork thread, is not supported any more).

I then copied the Recovery Manager to the sd and installed it, but it refuses to open. I only get a "app has stopped unexpectedly" error.

I have tried versions .34 , 0.32 and 0.29, none of them work.

I am missing anything ?

You could try rooting and then installing rom manager (from the market). From rom manager you can download and install clockwork mod. Once it is installed try rebooting with volume down to boot into recovery.

you need to run androot and root it, it will say its already rooted but you still need to root it, then you can run recovery manager.

rooting with androot did the trick !

clockwork mod didn't run before that (the clockwork didn't install). now Recovery Manager works as well

thanks a lot guys !!

I think these San Franciscos will start to populate the stores soon enough and the little bit of info in this thread will be useful for others as well

Hello, what? not supported anymore?

the link you posted in the Recovery Manager v0.34 thread goes to xda

there, the thread begins with

EDIT2: Since Google patched the loop hole in 2.2.1, this app is no longer working for newer builds. For this reason the developer has stopped supporting the app. If you still want to use this, feel free to do so. It would not harm anything.

However if it doesn't root your phone, there are numerous other methods of rooting out there. I suggest SuperOneClick or unrevoked.

that's what I meant. glad it still works though..

1 grey, 2 white.

funny enough, when rooting the phone with UniversalAndroot, the notification that the phone is already rooted pops up (and not just on the one that I had rooted with SuperOneClick, on the others as well).

You should be able to enter fastboot mode by enabling "USB Debug" in Android settings (under Applications->Development submenus) and running the command "adb reboot bootloader". The phone should reboot itself and stop at the green android splash screen.

all are 355***

but there was no touchscreen issue

for now however the problem is solved, I managed to properly root the phones with androot and install clockwork mod and then the rest.

should I add a "solved" to the thread name ?

This 'problem' comes up a lot, its because ZTE seem to ship the device with SU already installed, so Universal Androot sees it and thinks its already done its job....

z4root also works well to temporary root the phone
