I bought my Orange San Fran, back in about November and so was lucky ( or so I thought) to get an OLED Model, and loved the screen upgrade so much I keep the screen brightness generally on full, thinking the hit to my battery life and need for nightly charge worth it.

But now i have seen that when I load a full screen picture, or play angry birds for instance, i can see the faded image of the damn task bar permanently stuck there along the left hand side of my screen, faded signal bars and all!

Is there any possible way to reverse this? And has any of the other OLED owners noticed this? Or TFT/LCD owners for that matter?

It's a known problem with OLED screens, the LEDs wear out, and AFAIK there is no way to reverse it. I have my brightness fairly low and it's still noticeable.

The only way thing you can do is use a black/dark theme.

Wait so i could have prevented this by not having a grey task bar/ Status bar?

*gasp O.o puts screen down to its darkest.

Off topic I know, but does changing the screen density on our blades actually change anything? Ive tried 360, and 160 (default is 240) and haven't noticed anything. I'm not trying to solve the above, I was just curious :D

Not sure it's entirely preventable, but the taskbar is the main offender so it should fix it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_light...e#Disadvantages

* Screen burn-in: Unlike displays with a common light source, the brightness of each OLED pixel fades depending on the content displayed. The varied lifespan of the organic dyes can cause a discrepancy between red, green, and blue intensity. This leads to image persistence, also known as burn-in.[69]

You can set ADW Launcher EX set to hide the status bar. Luckily I've had mine hidden for a while without knowing about this problem.

The tide has turned. Once upon a time people with OLEDs were lucky...

Always used a Black bar on mine so hoping that will be enough to prevent :D

you can try without warranty pixel fixer on market

saved 2 dead pixels in my old blade

That doesn't help with the OLED problem though . . .

The ORGANIC part within each of the pixels (hence the O in OLED) has a limited life expectancy. Same as with Plasma screens.

The brighter the pixel, the faster the degeneration, because more current is needed to let ist "glow" bright. More current - shorter life.

There is no way (at least none I know of) to revert the process.

I heard about this on my Desire but have always been a fan of dark statusbars. Plus screen brightness at around a third is bright enough for me :D

Bringing a old thread to life....

After receiving a replacement blade it turns out that its a refurbished model with an OLED screen, instantly noticeable by the difference in colour.

I have now noticed it has the status bar burnt into the top of the screen also, only noticeable in full screen apps. Heres an image to show what its like, however its more noticeable by eye:

Using gingerbread now hence a black status bar, so hopefully it wont develop much worse over time.

Got the make the hard decision to either stick with it, or get another swap after only having it for a day.

Slightly off topic, I also noticed when media volume is muted, and an app 'tries' to make a noise, or even when I change ringer volume, a faint static sound comes from the speaker.

Is this standard for the older OLED model of blades, as I never noticed it with my TFT one.

i have a little white noise as well (TFT) for 7 seconds, but i have to put my hear against the speaker.

i think it s the main board which activate the speaker in case there is a sound to play.

and this is on my 2 blades .

Pretty sure my older, but actually newer blade didnt do this, but I may be wrong.

This OLED one I have now hisses constantly in a game with sound when the media volume is set to mute.

Does this happen to you also?
