Blade/SanFrancisco without custom ROMs?

Hi,

What is the speed of this phone like without resorting to custom ROM's etc, if I were to just switch the launcher to LP for instance?

I'm thinking of recommending this for a friends son, so I don't want to go down the route of installing a custom rom with root etc on there.

Thanks

It's ok without custom ROM, but it is so much better with a Froyo or Gingerbread custom ROM.

Without a 2.2 rom, the phone is not such a good buy.

I am still using stock, I think it is OK and for me the extra features of 2.2 do not outweigh the hassle/risk of updating and the fact that whenever I read a custom rom thread someone is always reporting that this or that doesnt work!

It's rubbish compared to 2.2 or 2.3, I could never go back, NEVER! I would prefer to drop it accidentally from the 10th floor instead of using 2.1. What hassle/risk? It's 5-10 minutes work and nobody bricked his blade untill now. If you flash FLB Froyo or the Swedish Spring, they are pretty close to perfection. You just don't know what you're losing. Try it and we'll talk again. I'm on CM7 2.3.3. and it's pretty much the perfect ROM for me, no big issues if any.

I resisted for so long but am glad I did. I initially just removed all the Orange rubbish from my stock ROM. But the lack of apps to SD support were really holding things back.

2.2 is so much better, its much faster and since going to Jap Jellyfish I've not had one crash or lag issue.

as above; 2.2 really makes it worth it.

i'd be quite happy with a de-orange-ated 2.2 rom, as this gets rid of the crap and offers good speed improvements.

stock 2.2 would be good.

i'm using FLB's 2.2 rom right now; works well and has that 0x80 mod (or whatever it's called) to get 'power control' in the slide-down menu..
