HTC Desire Upgrade to Gingerbread

I have an HTC Desire running Paul's R8 ROM and would like to upgrade to 2.3 Can I download and use the Gingerbread ROM as shown on http://androidadvices.com/htc-desire-steps...gingerbread-os/. If I just follow the instructions there will it accept the ROM and upgrade or will it get upset at the R8 rom?

If not wat is best way to get Gingerbread
