Guest khakiman Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 have a flexpay unlimited data texting and minutes sim card can i put it in my unlocked dell streak? any chance of getting 3g speeds. can i root it and install a different android version to unlock 3g? can i use the rebelsimcard 2 to unlock 3g speeds? with only 2.1 version or 2.2 as well? thanks!
Guest jmhalder Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 now way to get 3g. The baseband chipset physically doesn't support the frequency needed to do 3G on T-Mobile, not physically possible. There were prototypes in the wild that DID support Tmo's 3G bands. Sorry that you're out of luck, I know the pain, I used a TMO G1 on AT&T edge for about a year, its painful.
Guest khakiman Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 according to rebelsim 2 website 3g is available only on android 1.6 and 2.1. i wonder how this is when you guys are saying its not physically capable.
Guest jmhalder Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) according to rebelsim 2 website 3g is available only on android 1.6 and 2.1. i wonder how this is when you guys are saying its not physically capable. they are refering to when you are using it with a carrier that uses compatible bands. Like if you were to use a rebelsim in a AT&T locked phone on the Rogers network in Canada. Rogers happens to use the same bands as AT&T, they are saying in a scenario like that, 3G would work on 1.6 and 2.1... Seriously, this is fact: AT&T uses 850/1900 for 3G T-Mobile US uses 1700/2100 for 3G however, it is a quadband "GSM" device, which means you will be able to use edge on any of the 4 frequencies. If you buy a Streak in the US, it will NEVER work with T-Mobile 3G. It will however work on T-Mobile for Calls/text/EDGE data. Edited March 27, 2011 by jmhalder
