Hello all, I have tried installing android 2.2 and a new ROM using this method http://orangesanfrancisco.co.uk/android/ho...isco-zte-blade/

When i got to the stage of switching phone off and restarting while holding down the Vol. (-) key, the only thing i get on the screen is a white box with "FTM" written in it?

I switched it off again and restarted normally and everything was as it was before, so no damage appears to have been done.

There are a couple of extra things in my start box, "Superuser permission", "Universal Androot" and "ManD5" I'm not sure whether to start the process from scratch or take it to the local shop and ask them to do it. I'm really useless with technology and this is my first smartphone, i managed to unlock it no problem but maybe now i've bitten off a bit too much.

p.s. When i switched it off, i forgot to remove the battery before restarting it. Would this have made a difference?

Many thanks

john

Have you downloaded all the files: root, recovery, clockwork (unzipped *.img file) and rom?

Put them all in SD card and do it from there. Do not connect it to PC.

Summary:

Run root, then recovery, on to clockwork, turn off phone (remove battery), turn phone on holding volume -, follow the instruction to flash new rom.

Good luck.

I'd not downloadede the ROM yet, i'd not got to that stage. I was going to use the jellyfish one, that seems popular? As said' its my first smartphone so nothing to compare it to.

I'll redo it again from the start, that should keep me busy for the afternoon :D i presume if it finds previousally installed software im guessing it'll just overwrite it?

Many thanks ron, i'll report back how it goes

I've done the whole process twice again now, i'm still only getting to the same stage "FTM". when i restart the phone. I've tried starting it normally and opening the recovery manager but this does'nt open, only option it offers is "force close" :D

I had the same problem as you following this guide. I uninstalled everything using the applications manager in the phone settings menu and started the process from scratch. This time recovery manager installed properly and I was able to complete the process without further problem.

Now running 2.2 which seems much better and faster.

If the guide says take the battery out, then do so.

The original guide now has a warning about using this method for the newer version of the Blade, namely G2 version. It points you to a small app to check your phone version, called Ask Mr Pigfish. You can be downloaded from the market.

Good luck, it really is worth the efort when you get there.
