Guest ClippinWings Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 (edited) I've already got one replacement from Dell when i broke the LCD(but not the glass)... so I'm worried Dell wont replace it this time... Hope they do... I mean i was sitting in a chair and pulled it out of my pocket, lost my grip and it fell (less than 3 feet) onto a linoleum floor... it landed absolutely flat on its face... the glass is shattered bad, bad enough im afraid of cutting myself... anyone have experience getting a 2nd replacement from Dell? If they wont replace it, I don't have a choice... I will be moving on to something else. This phone is seriously fragile, I LOVE the size... but this is nuts. Can't put a case on it cause then it doesn't fit in my pocket... I'm thinking Inspire 4G... I'm definitely looking for a phone on the cheeper end of things... but 4" or larger. Unfortunately i'm stuck with AT&T due to family plan. Edited March 26, 2011 by ClippinWings

I have had luck so don't give up yet, not sure if they kept track of the numbers of your replacement phone, they couldnt figure out were I got mine from and I told them I got it from dell, the department couldnt look up the info(warranty department operate different from purchasing) so they pushed it through. Got really lucky and played dumb.
Guest gypsydigi Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 My screen also broke when it fell off the counter. The one time I didnt have my case on it. so I replaced it myself and not even 3 weeks later I fell asleep with it in my pocket. Lcd is damaged on the corners now. Just waiting on my new screen to arrive. Hopefully I dont break it again. Its only $100 for a new screen so its not too bad.

Guest Domino Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 you lot are so slack , had mine for 9 months looks like new take care of SH*T or pay the price Unfortunately its not always the owners fault.. My gf's mum dropped my streak twice from a table onto concrete paving slabs 3ft below. Luckily my streak landed on its back both times so the damage was only cosmetic. That was a month after I bought it. Im sure some of you can imagine how I was feeling!
Guest ClippinWings Posted March 27, 2011 Report Posted March 27, 2011 you lot are so slack , had mine for 9 months looks like new take care of SH*T or pay the price Kind of insensitive considering I crushed my left hand in an industrial accident a few years back and have almost no feeling... Making gripping things difficult sometimes. That said gorilla glass should not shattered like this.

Then you would think you would have had the sense to put it in a wrap around case that fully protects it :D

It's a horrible catch 22... I love the big screen, but because of it it makes holding it difficult sometimes... and makes adding a case impossible for my daily use.

I have my Streak in a suit every day, it fits fine with the Otteebox case on and I've dropped it many times with zero damage.
Guest mtyrrell Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 I'm always shocked when people are surprised that when they drop their phone onto concrete that it breaks and others love spouting that theirs is indestructible. It's luck. Through and through. Complete dumb luck. Gorilla glass has a far higher chance than normal screens to not break when dropped onto hard surfaces. But it is still glass. So if you hit it in it's weakest point (bottom left corner on mine) then it will likely shatter. Seriously. Lighten up. Not everyone is anal about caring for their phone. I take mine out into the city on a night out when drunk and have thus far seen it survive 2 drops which my old N95 would have certainly broken on. To the OP. Good luck getting it replaced. I'm on a contract with no insurance so if mine broke I would be fairly.. pissed.. :D
