Root Issues & Blade Buddy

Hello, in preparation for installing another ROM, I rooted my GF's blade today. However I've rebooted the phone and apparently it's no longer rooted (I get an error message saying I need root privileges when I try to open Blade Buddy.) Is this normal? When I first opened Universal Androot, it told me the device was already rooted however it didn't do this after a reboot.

Also, what are safe settings for Blade Buddy? I've turned H/W acceleration on, but this hasn't really done much performance wise and from the limited info I've gathered searching online, increasing the davlik heapsize can also improve things, what is a relatively safe setting?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If she is still on the stock ROM, then this is a known issue: The stock ROM often "forgets" its rooted, it tends to be a bit flaky. On another ROM, this never occurs.

A safe dalivk heap is anything from 24-64mb. I personally use 64mb, as I watch a lot of videos, and it helps increase performance there. It also "supposedly" helps battery life.

32mb is the "recommended" heap size

Excellent, thanks for that.

If it forgets it's rooted, is it still safe/able to install clockwork mod and an alternative ROMs or will it cause issues?

It is still safe, I certainly remember having this issue with stock and it has never effected me with later ROMS.

As long as you get recovery manager/ROM manager (if you are installing clockwork that way) to open then that is OK, you don't need root permissions during clockwork as it is like a "mini os", used to alter the main one.

So yes, it will be safe, and it will be possible. And it will not effect later ROMS.

but you will not be able to use apps that require root (eg titanium, rom manager etc) without using universal androot everytime you boot it.

as above, clockwork doesn't need root so you'll be fine if you install the rom manually in clockwork

I'll be using this guide to install another ROM.

If you don't need to root to install the ROMs, I could have technically skipped the root section then? I'm not that fussed about backing stuff up as I've already manually backed up everything she needs but as far as the rest of the instructions are concerned, that looks ok yeah?

From what I've researched so far, I know there appear to be numerous ways of doing it but as I've never done it before, that seems to be the simplest, step by step guide.

Thanks.

Use the fastboot method to flash recovery, it doesnt need root. put the rom zip file on the SD card and boot into clockwork. (Volume down and power)

yer you could of skipped what you call the "root section" as a flashing a rooted rom (almost all are rooted) will do this bit for you. universal androot is for gaining root on the stock rom or other non-root roms.

i advise checking out a nice starter rom such as pauls modaco r12 froyo rom (which has root) to start with until you know what your doing

then try out the awesome roms such as the new sweedish spring r3 or, my favourite BY FAR, cyanogenmod-7 which is android 2.3 (gingerbread) with the awesomeness of cyanogenmod (the best android rom maker)
