This doesn't work, i can see android device in my device manager, update driver software, let me pick from a list on my computer etc, but no android device etc even exists in the list i'm given, i have un-installed the anti virus from my streak and disabled it on my laptop too as i was told this could be causing a problem, but still nothing.

Back to an i-phone i think, these things are rubbish and i'm going in circles from blog to blog, site to site and nothing described works even if i follow the instructions exactly =(

Thanks anyway

So because YOU are having problems (most likely something you arn't doing correctly), it's a fault with the phone?!

It's not pick from your computer, it's use the "Have Disk" button and point it at the driver..

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback on my post. I did locate the correct driver by 'pick from my computer' function as i read in a most blogs, although it wasn't laid out quiet right and i had to right click the android device and select the properties tab to update the driver instead of just trying to find it on my desktop, and as it turned out the driver wasn't even the real problem, the SuperOneClick version i was told to download on XDA forums did not support 2.2 Froyo OS, after an hour trawling blogs and reading more i managed to root with ease using v 1.7 SuperOneClick, it took 2 attempts before it finally worked but i now have Root access.

apologies if i angered anyone with my rant about my phone, maybe thats just inexperience and frustration because i knew i was doing what i was told to do and it wouldn't work, but with a bit more reading and a lot of hit and miss i finally did it with a bit of help.

Thanks again to everyone who helped.

BTW, the advice i was following is at the top of this blog as posted by another user to guide me, if u read the directions and see what i was doing, maybe you can see why i was so frustrated by it, the way i did it in the end was slightly different but i did get there with enough persistance =)

i see...... so you wanted to ROOT the phone. you didnt have to touch fastboot to do that. now if in the future you want to install streakdroid (which i recommend), you can use fastboot to flash a custom recovery image on you 2.2 and from there install steves streakdroid (currently on 1.9). and its prerooted.
