Guest EazyDuz Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 I am getting an OSF very soon so i want to be prepared before i get it. Generally what is the best ROM to use? As in, the one witht he most features/apps, runs smoothest and has no bugs? Or do all ROMs have bugs? Bit of a noob but i have done a lot of reading. Thanks
Guest hecatae Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-the-zte-blade/ the thread above has a table, have a read choose a rom you like the sound of, try it. if you dont like it try another one.
Guest jeddy1 Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 If you buy a 2.2 Gen2 you'll not have to choose because there's just one rom for it now.Gen1 all the rest

Guest kickRS Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Im in the UK so i will get whatever Argos is selling. don't take my word for it, still check the phone yourself. but i bought an OSF from argos in the UK 5 days ago and it was GEN1, with 512MB (more like 420MB) and OLED screen. i'm very happy with it! as for the ROMs, i'm a total android newcomer! i used the Japanese Jellyfish RLS9 ROM, partly because that was what all the tutorials used, and i saw some chart on a web site somewhere saying it was the most popular. i used this walkthrough: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-the-zte-blade/ as a note, i downloaded, Clockwork 3.0.1.4 (recovery-clockwork-blade-3.0.1.4.img) like the tutorial said, and i kept getting "Currently installed recovery: unrecognised". so i downloaded, recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-blade.img like in the YouTube video, and that worked.

Why are there no guides on how to root?
Guest m1k33d Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Why are there no guides on how to root? really? Install Universalandroot from the APK you downloaded Launch Universalandroot from the App Drawer Choose Go Root
Guest EazyDuz Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 really? Install Universalandroot from the APK you downloaded Launch Universalandroot from the App Drawer Choose Go Root What does APK stand for? Also, are the B10 SF's Gen 2, and B8 are Gen1?
Guest m1k33d Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 What does APK stand for? Also, are the B10 SF's Gen 2, and B8 are Gen1? ok... first read this guide - http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-for-new-users/
Guest kickRS Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 m1k33d is right. you really need to read everything you can before you try to root/debrand your phone. i spent about 8 hours reading, and i still feel like i know nothing. rooting my San Francisco was scary as hell! to answer your question, though, an APK file is an Android Package file). copy the APK files to the SD card in your phone, and then click on them using either the inbuilt file manager (filer) or do like the YouTube walkthrough says and install Astro File Manager and use that. if you follow the exactly, you should be ok. but know what you're doing before you start. good luck mate, i know what you're about to go through.

Also do you lose a load of apps if you change rom? are the B10 SF's Gen 2, and B8 are Gen1?
Guest kickRS Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 are the B10 SF's Gen 2, and B8 are Gen1? i don't think so. i used Ask Mr Pigfish and it told me that mine was Gen 1. from what i've read, Gen 2s are rare, but you should still check, just to be sure. Also do you lose a load of apps if you change rom? Orange put a load of Apps on the San Francisco. The ROMs take out a lot of the useless apps and leave the useful ones, plus add a few really good ones too. JJ9 includes a keyboard that's better than the standard Android one. it also keeps the Live Wallpapers, which i don't use, but i'm glad to still have around.
Guest userof2 Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 So far, *all* San Franciscos sold in the UK are Gen 1, including the B10 builds. It's only some models released in other countries that are Gen 2. These models have Android 2.2 on them by default anyway.
Guest Ralph Martin Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 Get the Swedish Spring ROM. I used JJ9 for ages, and it was pretty good. Swedish Spring is the natural successor to JJ9. No problems with it for me.
