Returning phone to Orange panic!

Hi All

Just over a week ago I lost my phone, Orange blocked it and sent out a replacement (for £163.42 on emergency cover).

The phone seemed a bit duff, but as it's been ages since I used a stock ROM I just assumed it was that, so rooted, flashed, and started to get all my bits back in place. There were still loads of problems, if I hadn't used it before flashing I would have been blaming r11, but fortunately I was going out and only had to to restore my contacts.

Anyway, the original phone was handed in at the cop shop (I know I can hardly believe it myself), now as that phone is stable, has the simlock removed, and has the glass rather than plastic screen, I phoned Orange about unblocking that one and sending the replacement back (and saving £163.42 in the process). They agreed.

Now here is what I'm panicking about, there seems to be no stock Orange ROMs in the wild, I see lots of stories about people returning bricked phones with custom ROMs to Orange without issue, but this is a working phone!

Due to the problems with it I think it's a refurbished warranty return, so I may be able to blame somebody else if it does get noticed, but I'm still very concerned.

Anybody know of a stock UK Orange ROM? Any other ideas/comments?

As you've already said, no Orange UK RUU exists for the original Desire so there's not a lot you can do

That I know of, but new ROMs do turn up.

The annoying thing is, I did back up the phone (with all the bloatware in place) before flashing my first custom ROM, but that image has gotten lost somewhere, or deleted to make space.

It'd still be rooted so either way they'd know - your only hope is to find an Orange RUU

Hi All

Just thought of another option, wipe the phone, set a swipe unlock pattern forget the code. Would they just flash an Orange ROM to save messing about?

They would probably just reset the factory settings (Power+Volume down) because it's simpler. And then they would figure it out because they would be brought into Clockwork recovery when they would select the recover option.

I don't know a lot about CDMA phones but could you sell it rooted to someone?

He said that he had blocked it so I was assuming that it's a CDMA phone (since they're tied to a subscription). They don't block GSM phones in our country unless they are stolen and even then they usually don't block them.

There really isn't a problem then. Just sell the phone for £163.42.

I think when the OP called Orange to say it was lost the first thing UK operators do is block the IMEI so the phone can't be used anywhere else

That's great. In our country they tell you to deal with it. :D
