Guest youngsta2010 Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Hey i've just got my blade/san francisco first time with a smartphone i've been doing a little reading and just wondering if i'm correct in my assumptions 1: i root my phone with universal androot 2: install clockworkmod 3: make a backup of my current rom 4: flash phone with new rom i guess basically my questions are, does my phone need to be unlocked first, if i don't like the new rom or phone starts acting up can i just flash the phone with the backup and it would be back to how it was and also what are the chances of bricking my phone and in what ways can the phone be bricked, like what would i have to do to brick it. Probably not explaining myself correctly but hope you understand. Thanks alot for any help
Guest xzyk Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Hey i've just got my blade/san francisco first time with a smartphone i've been doing a little reading and just wondering if i'm correct in my assumptions 1: i root my phone with universal androot 2: install clockworkmod 3: make a backup of my current rom 4: flash phone with new rom i guess basically my questions are, does my phone need to be unlocked first, if i don't like the new rom or phone starts acting up can i just flash the phone with the backup and it would be back to how it was and also what are the chances of bricking my phone and in what ways can the phone be bricked, like what would i have to do to brick it. Probably not explaining myself correctly but hope you understand. Thanks alot for any help Looks fine to me, although I usually root after i put roms on but i don't think it make a difference if you root first. Some froyo (2.2) roms will bypass the network lock anyway so you won't have to unlock first, but you have to check on the rom you intend to install because some of them require you to unlock first. I would not unlock unless you have to because there is no way I am aware of of re-locking the phone and if you need to put everything back to factory default (in case its faulty and you want to return it) then removing clockwork and any rom you loaded is possible but relocking is not, AFAIK. If you somehow brick your phone, re-flashing your NANDroid backup should bring it back to life. If things get really desperate you should look at the TPT install which loads roms differently (bypassing clockwork) but i suggest you do some reading on this before taking this root because bricking it via TPT may be harder to recover from than a clockwork brick. Finally how you would go about bricking your phone is unknown to me because after having loaded many different roms on our 3 SFs fortunately i've never had a brick. Regardless, invest some time reading some of the very good threads on here and follow them religiously. Don't try it unless you feel confident of what to expect and how to recover in case of problems. Have fun ! Edited March 29, 2011 by xzyk
