Greetings all,

I just became the proud owner of a beautiful new ZTE Blade purchased via ebay. I'm looking forward to having lots of fun with what is my first Android Phone. I'm a little disappointed to hear that there's no Flash Player on the Blade. It is likely that it will be available in the future? That would be so sweet.

Anyway after a quick look at a thread regarding the best Roms, I see a lot of people like one called Pauls R11. It seems like this is a safe bet for a newbie, but i could not see it in the poll options from that thread. Does anyone have more info about that pls?

I'm also interested to know what everyone thinks are their Top 5 Games and Apps for the BLADE :D

So far this is my top 5 :D :

GAMES:

Angry Birds

APPS:

Google Sky

Thanks all :(

best roms are swedish spring rls3 and cm7, If you can live with a couple small bugs on cm7 then pick that, otherwise ss3 seems to be the most stable around ;)

@OP

Top 5 is very subjective and depends on personal choices. So people here posting that will have their personal opinions.

For ROM i too will suggest you go for the Swedish Spring for now.

Try to use Skyfire as browser - worked for me with flash movies.

Cool cool. I'll check 'em out :D

That brings me to another question I had.... I have the Android Emulator on my PC, can the roms be loaded/tested on the emulator in some way? Is it worth trying?

Cheers!

Yeah I know :D but with so many apps available I'm a little overwhelmed. It's exactly your subjective opinions that I want hehe

Also, should I get a Class 6 32GB MSD card? The class 10's are a little expensive :D

The class only determines it's lowest speed which is it's write speed so it doesn't tell you anything about it's read speed. Whilst that's handy for cameras I'd imagine a phone spends a lot more time reading than writing making it a fairly useless stat. My class 2 sd card reads faster than my class 6. :D

The Blade struggles with some bigger cards too. You should take a look here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...efinitely-work/

Very informative thread :D 1,000,000 thanks!

So something like this should do the trick?

A little disappointed that I can't have 32GB storage, but I can live with it.

about roms: paul's r12 is the most stable for beginners. (thought no overclock)

SS RSL3 is probs the best for people who have got into roms and want more advanced features

CM7 is the best :D (subject to opinion) but you might wana get used to clockwork etc in case things screw up as CM7 is only 90% stable

games: try out gamelofts selection. you cant go far wrong with: Real Football 2010, Modern Combat Sandstorm, Modern Combat Black Pegasus, NOVA, Assassin's Creed, and Asphalt 5.

NB: all not on the market except Asphalt 5. check out gameloft's website or hit google.

Well I've had my blade for a few weeks now. I decided to keep the default OS on there so that when I upgraded I would hopefully be able to notice the advantages/disadvantages better. Hopefully I will not have too much data on the phone that it becomes painful for me to reset it. I have noticed that many forum users seem to do frequent reinstalling of the OS on their blade. I'm kind of curious to know how it is that they do this without making it too troublesome. But I will probably learn all that when I actually get round to installing a custom rom.

My fav games and apps at the moment are:

Angry Birds, Chess (AI factory), Alchemy, Pinball Delux, Snex9x (but this is too slow, atm)

Spotify, Google Sky, Skype, Pocket Cloud, MobileVOIP, Youtube

I just installed Skyfire, it looks good except there seems to be no flash player included. There is a "Get Flash" link. Should I follow it and try to install it via the traditional method? Something tells me it won't work that way and I'm feeling too lazy to try atm :)

Cheers.

I would go for Swedish Spring RLS4b. It's probably the most up to date version of Froyo for the blade. CM7 is great but no FM radio yet.

I don't miss Flash at all, I can watch Youtube videos so I'm happy.

My favourite apps are: Tunewiki, Angry Birds, Realcalc, Skype and Aura maps.

In terms of frequently changing roms most people seem to be using Titanium Backup (its worth buying the paid version) to keep any apps/games data they may have changed and everything else is done with google sync. You can choose to backup messages and stuff too but personally it saves me the effort of deleting them and I'm happy with just my contacts coming back each time I log into google. :)

Right today on this beautifully sunny Easter Monday I feel motivated to kill and ressurect my Blade. Hopefully my blade will not endure too much unnecessary suffering and be dead for three days.

I'm not too confident using the guide here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...zte-blade-gen1/

I'm just really worried that I'm going to permanently wreck my blade. I'm still not sure what ROM to use. I can't find SS RLS4b, so I think I'll try out RLS5 which is available here: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...zte-blade-gen1/
