So ive been following the guide stickied to the point where it says about backing up your stock ROM. So i do, i name it 'original orange'. The phone then resets, i go back on recovery manager and it wont open, nor will androot.

Reset phone to factory settings and formatted memory card, reinstalled and the same thing is happening.

Have i ruined my phone?

Basically got to this point:

# Hit the Firmware tab

# Hit the MENU button on your device and choose Update Database

# If you want to make a complete backup of your entire phone : use the option Backup Current Firmware - this will put a FULL backup of your device onto the SDCard (in a directory called clockwork)

Made a backup name something like 'original orange', as soon as i did that, the phone reboots and now androot and recovery manager wont work.

Need advice soon before i take it back for an exchange

Ok - don't worry.

The backup made is in a directory that has a space in it.

Mount your SDCard and delete the Backup off it.

Go into "Manage Applications" on your device and remove Recovery Manager

Re-install Recovery Manager

Now carry-on with the guide - but DONT but a space in the backup name.

Please post if you get further - then I can update the guide with warnings about spaces in backup names.

Thanks

I have already done that, i highlighted everything in the SD card, deleted it and it still has this problem. Ive even flashed the stock ROM and it STILL does it. SO confused

Can you boot with the VOLUME DOWN button held - do you get into clockwork?

Have you installed Clockwork?

Which version (if you have)?

It may be possible that your SDCard is faulty

Yes i have also wiped data cache and restored to factory, and installed the original ROM by booting into clockwork. I have 3.0.1.4

installing the stock rom from Sebastian removes clockwork again so you will need to re-install it

I cant install it without recovery manager which WILL NOT WORK, nor will ANDROOT now.

Getting sick of this, such ridiculous software

i didn't use recovery manager to install clockwork initially. i installed via astro with a zip file. i have B08 firmware though so never looked into after that. are you on B10? if you are im not sure of the process.

Thats weird, i just redownloaded androot and recovery manager and replaced it with the ones i had downloaded before and its now all working.

Didnt think to do that because i saved them to my laptop first and had already replaced them with the ones on my laptop several times but it didnt work. Makes no sense to me, maybe my laptop memory got slightly corrupted.

Either way downloading the files fresh from the internet seems to have fixed the problem. On with the flash!

Good - The software works for 1000's of people - you should always assume something is wrong with your files before assuming software is "ridiculous"

Keep posting thou if you get stuck - I am here for a few hours.

There's probably a reason why the guide says at several points that you should check the md5sum of downloaded/copied files... :D

I did thanks. I said in the first post i followed the guide. The space in the backup caused the problem, which somehow corrupted androot and rec manager.

Because they didnt work, i copied across the files off my laptop which i originally downloaded and replaced them with the ones on the SD card. So for that reason they should have worked, because the VERY SAME files worked the first time (until i tried to back up) thats why i didnt think to re-download them to my laptop if they had worked originally.

Could you change the title of this thread - it's a little offensive - and your phone is not ruined.

1. To destroy completely; demolish.

2. To harm irreparably.

A little harsh: I would say.

always. copy all backups to your PC. yes all backups as you can always put them back on SD card in the clockwork folders.I always do this if I want to use any backup from different roms.and this has done me well to have copied them for emergency use in case you format sdcard.I also did this with a spare sdcard. learn to backup.it saves time.
