Having a bit of trouble with my Orange San Francisco

Ok just to start, i have literally no idea how to use forums like this and no idea how to use twitter so i dont know if anyone can help?

I just bought an Orange San Francisco off a friend with the intention of putting my Virgin contract sim card into it (unlim texts + internet + 300 mins) however i have a problem which was last posted about on here in October last year (i think). Basically although i can put the card in and load up the phone fully without any prompt to enter any code to unlock the phone (which would suggest that it is unlocked?) it will not let me send texts and it goes straight to the 'call ended' screen when i try to make a call. I have no access to details on which it was bought and am not at all sure what the problem is or what to do about it?

PS sorry if this is posted in the wrong section :/

Do you have the correct APN settings for Virgin?

I use these -

Name = Virgin Mobile UK

APN = goto.virginmobile.uk

Proxy = Not Set

Port = 8080

Username = wap

Password = wap

Server = Not Set

MMSC = http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002

MMS Proxy = 193.030.166.002

MMS Port = 8080

MMC = 234

MNC = 30

Authentication Type = Not Set

APN Type = default,mms

perhaps im just being stupid but it wont let me change the current 'Virgin UK' apn, all of the subheadings within this are in the faded grey which indicates i cant click on them and when i press menu the only option which it lets me click on is 'discard' which simply takes me straight back to the list of apns?

are you suggesting that i add an apn or change the existing one ? as when i added a new one it just is added to the list and does nothing, and all i can do is edit it, discard it, save it or delete it?

ty for help :D

I was having problems sending and receiving MMS. I did have an APN set up for Virgin but different settings. I added the settings as a new APN, selected them so the green dot was showing against them, and after that I could still send/receive calls, SMS, internet was working, but I could also send/receive MMS. Once I knew the new APN was working, I deleted the old one.

May not be your issue but I thought it was worth trying.
