Guest ricogu4 Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) Hi guys, I am a newbie to everything android and was wondering if any of you more experienced guys could install a custom ROM on my new OSF. I have unlocked my phone and tried the guide myself but do not seem to get it done. My phone is still fully working (with supeuser on its app list) but since installing a custom ROM is a risky process I am afraid to ruin the device. I live in Aberdeen/Scotland and am willing to pay (not much though, I am a student) for the services. Cheers Edited April 2, 2011 by ricogu4
Guest Frankish Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 If the device already has Clockwork recovery on it then there is no way you can totally ruin it really.
Guest ricogu4 Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Thanks Frankish! i have installed and uninstalled Clockwork recovery a number of times now. What a can't seem to do is to open the .img file after that. Anyway, for me the whole process is a bit too advance (I know I should not have started with it) but I want Froyo 2.2 on my device. I am not willing to ship my phone to get it done, but if someone is on the vicinities of Aberdeen I would gladly drive by.

On the basis of the Froyo ROMs being constantly improved & updated it would be more appropriate for you to have a crack at it yourself, as Frankish says it is highly unlikely that you would do any permanent damage even if you got it wrong a couple of times. Read the guides here & get a feel for where everything goes & rest assured that there are copious amounts of very helpful members here who will help if needed. Just to give you some incentive; I am 65 years old & 6 months ago the only thing I knew about Androids was that they occasionally turned up in SciFi films, since then I have flashed & re-flashed 4 OSFs that are under my care & never managed to brick one yet, the only real talents you need are Patience & Perseverance. Go for it & Good Luck.
Guest ricogu4 Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Thanks for the kind words Pellonet. I will give it another go this weekend. Fingers crossed here!
Guest hugobosslives Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) tbh its pretty simple. especially if you've already got clockwork installed (as you seem to say in your post) once clockwork is on its as simple as: 1) download your froyo rom (from this website) 2) copy to your sdcard (not in any folder just in the root of the sdcard) 3) boot into clockwork (hold power and volume down [when off] then navigate with volume buttons, home to click) 4) click on the various wipe cache options and factory reset) 5) hit the install zip from sdcard function, (wait ages) then hit reboot (wait ages again), DONE! EASY AS PIE! EDIT: Thanks Frankish! i have installed and uninstalled Clockwork recovery a number of times now. What a can't seem to do is to open the .img file after that. you do not open the .img file. once install you boot into clockwork with power and volume down as above Edited April 1, 2011 by hugobosslives
Guest ricogu4 Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Many thanks hugo. I will try again soon and will let you know the results. It seems pretty easy when you read the instructions but reality is always tougher.
Guest Ufufu Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Many thanks hugo. I will try again soon and will let you know the results. It seems pretty easy when you read the instructions but reality is always tougher. Don't worry - if you've got ClockworkMod on it, you're done with the "hard" part. The rest (getting the ROM on it) is easier than it sounds (or reads). I'm sure you'll manage to do it.
Guest ricogu4 Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Got it! Running Swedish Spring RLS3 Remix! Thanks for the tips guys! Just followed Hugo's steps and it worked!
Guest StevenHarperUK Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Got it! Running Swedish Spring RLS3 Remix! Thanks for the tips guys! Just followed Hugo's steps and it worked! And trying a new ROM is just the same procedure - easy :D can you rename your thread to have [solved] in it
Guest skull_fcuk Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Damn, i was too late! i live 50 miles away and would've loved to hack another phone. You should try Cyanogen 2.3.3 Gingerbread RC4. Tis awesome.

Just followed Hugo's steps and it worked! good on you mate. well done, and now you understand it a bit more, have fun playing around with custom roms. see, wasn't it better that we showed you how to do it yourself, instead of paying some randomer to come round and play with your phone... this way, you can keep on having fun with new roms as they come out (like CM7, shameless plug :D )
