Guest Xenon0816 Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Hey guys, did anyone of you already test the new SPB Shell 3d, which came out yesterday? I did it and I have to admit that the home screen is very intuitive and seems very well programmed. Running CM7 RC3, the Shell is super smooth (and with super smooth I mean WOW, smoother than all the other launchers I have come across so far). The animations and the overall design is pretty sweet and even with our (not that fast) 600 Mhz processor everything runs silk smooth. It supports all the standard android widgets and offers a lot of built-in widgets and features, that expand your android-experience nicely! A negative thing about this launcher is, that it is kinda expensive (15 bucks atm) and there is no trial available. If you'd like to have further information you should check out the SPB-homepage and/or IMO this launcher is definately worth checking out! (a trial would be nice though)
Guest heavyduty00 Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 Thanks for the heads up, i like the beta version a lot... but $15??? :D
Guest droweed Posted April 1, 2011 Report Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) yeah tried it, and it runs really smooth, but the launcher itself eats up alot of ram, around 80mb i guess on processes Oo and with that amount of ram taken, playing heavy games takes its toll, such as dungeon hunters, alot of broken areas, or reckless racing, some parts of the track are no longer loaded :D, using cm7 rc4 Edited April 1, 2011 by droweed

I tried it, impressive, but novelty wore off quickly.

Flickr and weather widget quite impressive but yes novelty wore off quick then back to something more lightweight like zeam / launcher pro....

They added an app drawer and changed the dock. To be honest, I liked the beta better...
Guest Xenon0816 Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 I did not try the beta, just the final release... And yes, it eats a lot of ram, but imo it just looks awesome and is incredibly fast (faster than LPP or Zeam). I will stick with this launcher for a while.
Guest heavyduty00 Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 does it use up a lot of battery for you guys?
Guest Xenon0816 Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 does it use up a lot of battery for you guys? I need to test it a bit more, but it seems as if it does not drain the battery more than any other launcher.
Guest man and van hire london Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 i am using SPB 3D is awesome. i am using paid version and is working very fine. it drain battery quick. I'm using 2 batteries.
Guest targetbsp Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 I've seen SPB Shell - it's flashy looking but there's not much of practical use to warrant $15 over the price of anything else. In CM7 it's no faster than ADW.Ex or the new optimised LauncherPro imo. The only way it's going to be worthwhile is if you're big on widgets and it's cheaper to buy it than all the other widgets you'd otherwise have to buy separately!
Guest mehelan Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 :D I am running cm7 nightly n34 and sob shell does not wotk
Guest Bonbergol Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Looks so very good but is unusable because of the massive battery draining... would stay on LP
Guest jmallen3 Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) where can i find the weather widget of this launcher to put on launcher pro? Edited April 3, 2011 by jmallen3
Guest Xenon0816 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 where can i find the weather widget of this launcher to put on launcher pro? That's not possible... You cannot get the widgets out of spb shell to put them into another launcher, as they are built in. Either you use spb shell or you forget about that widget.
Guest LVL91 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 SPB shell 3D is nice, very nice actually. But I can barely edit any settings or so... :D
Guest Xenon0816 Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 SPB shell 3D is nice, very nice actually. But I can barely edit any settings or so... :D Neither did I find any settings... I am disappointed about this point as well, as the richness of setting was one of the reasons for me to use the SPB Mobile Shell on Windows Mobile... Maybe (hopefully) an update will add some options!
Guest Vyker Posted April 6, 2011 Report Posted April 6, 2011 I've been using the beta copy for a few weeks now. Its fantastic... I've not noticed any drain on battery, i still get a day out of it [around 17hrs] of standard use, which is what I got from Launcher Pro. It is very fast, the flick between screens is much better than LP. And the winner for me is the fact I can use funky folders to group everything together, a much better system, imo, than the App Drawer. For now, I'm stay on the free Beta... as $15 is far too much for the Final release.
Guest Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 I can't believe how smooth it runs on the Orange San Francisco considering it's a weak performance phone. HTC, Samsung and Motorola should take note. It's a fantastic tech demo but I won't be finding any use for it, so I got a refund within 15 minutes.

IMO launchers like launcher pro or adw are better, but the smootheness of SPB shell is remarcable!
