Cannot access Android Market

I just installed MCR R8 on my day-old Vega and am unable to access Android Market via the Market app. I've had a GMail account for years but it cannot seem to sign-in and always times-out trying to communicate with the Google servers. If I log-in via market.android.com it signs-in ok but will not let me install apps such as Angry Birds and Adobe Reader which I've previously installed on my Orange San Fran. Anyone out there got any constructive suggestions?

Don't you hate it when you post a question and then discover how to solve the problem?

If anyone is following this thread, my solution was to enable Background data and Auto-sync via Settings -> Accounts & sync-settings

Works fine now :D
