Guest Lew247 Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Has anyone outside of the US/Canana got Google voice dialler working properly? I've managed to get my son in America to set me up with a new Google account and I now have a Google Voice number, but when I try and log in on the phone it comes up with an error I presume it recognises its not an American ip address Does anyone know any way to overcome this? Ideally without cost but if I have to pay I dont mind as long as it's not a fortune. I would imagine the only real option is a decent VPN but what options are there that will work with our phones, cheap and reliable?
Guest Sebastian404 Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 I never had any problems using it when I was in the UK... Im not aware that we have any sort of geo-ip checking going on with voice.
Guest ThrashMan Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 Try setting locale as USA in Speech recognition settings. I read something about voice recognition only works for USA so far :-/
Guest paulus22 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Try setting locale as USA in Speech recognition settings. I read something about voice recognition only works for USA so far :-/ Mine works in the UK altho recognition is far from perfect. The key think to check is that the language is set (Settings>Voice I/O>Voice recognizer>Language) to English (Generic). It is the only one that works.
Guest Lew247 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 I think some of you are confusing what I meant with the Google Voice Search I meant the Google Voice DIALLER, as in Google telephone (only officially available in the US) This is what i get when I try and log in and I know the username and password works perfectly because I logged into it on the ocmputer using an American Proxy
Guest paulus22 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Sorry, yes I am unfamiliar with that application. My only guess would be that, maybe, the "Google Voice" password is different to the gmail account password??
Guest Lew247 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 yes it has a different password (it's a different account) but I know the password works because I logged into the Google Voice application on the pc and it signs in perfectly when I'm using a US VPN Looks like I'll have to try and find a US VPN that not only works on the Blade but is cheap too

I'm wondering if I have to sign in with an American ISP the 1st time before it "authenticates" my phone then after that it will just sign in normally without it maybe!
Guest Lew247 Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Got it sorted at last Unfortunately I cant use the phone for incoming calls as it insists that it sends an automatic text message to Google to verify the phone number, and as it's a UK number it just won't work but I can use it for outgoing calls Now to find some way to validate it so I can get incoming calls too although I dont think thats going to be possible somehow
Guest hecatae Posted April 4, 2011 Report Posted April 4, 2011 Paul O'Brien got it working I remember reading on twitter
